(Scotland) Prisoner Custody Officer (Current Employee) –  Scotland12 September 2019
This job does not give you a finish time therefore your life is theirs. Daily hours are ridiculous never allowing any proper life outside of the job (Ideal if you are single/no family). Management are too quick to criticise staff and will not listen to any ideas to improve processes. You are guaranteed to be verbally abused by prisoners daily, and assaulted regularly all for a pittance of £9 per hour!!!!

An interesting job however an awful salary
Prison Custody Officer (Current Employee) –  Chester10 September 2019
The pay is very low for a fairly high risk job and there is no real chance of promotion or salary increase. To earn more money then you would have to work long hours

Prison Officer Driver (Former Employee) –  Nottingham, Nottinghamshire8 July 2019
You always knew your start time but never knew when you would be finishing, the outcome being you could never plan anything. The work/life balance was non-existent and people stabbed you in the back creating not a very nice feeling when you worked there.

bullying staff, management rubbish
Prison Custody Officer (Current Employee) –  Chester6 July 2019
The training programme given before you start is good, you'll make friends for life, once you get in the job, you are treated for a very long time as the 'newbie' staff dont mentor or instruct just whisper behind their hands that you are no good, seems like everything is a secret, obviously if you learn too much you make them look rubbish, hours are ridiculous, your well-being is the last thing on managements mind and if you have a problem...well you are classed as a trouble maker...avoid avoid avoid,

Disappointed
PCO (Prisoner custody officer) (Former Employee) –  Bristol, Avonmouth28 June 2019
Worked in the avonmouth depot. Avoid it like the plague.. The team were somewhat ok, the older people would try to get you down and make you feel like you’re not important, I never got any respect from my work mates and didn’t feel comfortable/protected with them. Saying that there were some good team mates that would have your back but it was rare you would get to work with them.
Management were terrible, they had favourites that they would grant favours for.

Overall didn’t feel safe at work, most team members were bullies, for the first 6 months they don’t pay you any overtime.
Cons
Overtime rate, colleagues, management.

Demanding job
Prisoner Custody Officer (Current Employee) –  Buckingham18 June 2019
Very demanding job, with slim possibilities of progression.

You have to work 60+ hours a week to make any decent money.

The job can be dangerous and you don't get paid enough for what the job entails.

You don't have a finish time, so if you have family you may as well not bother.
Pros
You only work 1 Saturday per month
Cons
Long hours, dangerous job, threat to life

Low paid job in dangerous situations , no progression , favouritism job
Prisoner Custody Officer (Former Employee) –  Birmingham7 June 2019
Working for GEOamey is a good job to work in if your at a retiring age and already have stability. The job itself is a risky and dangerous job yet you are paid pennies for what you do. You can be injured at work carrying out your duties and you are not compensated for this only ring fenced if you have time off work for injuries . People have worked there many years and have seen no real difference within the job in regards to the pay. You can be working there with 20 years of experience and knowledge yet you would get paid the same as a new starter with no experience. People who have been there years should be paid accordingly each year for their service and experience as they have greater knowledge and experience .It is embarrassing to say that the job title is a prisoner custody officer yet we get paid the same as a McDonald’s worker . That in itself says it all! The hours get taken back off you whatever overtime you do as you can be sent home earlier the next day to reduce the hours to your contracted hours or near to . They are employing people that are young. A young person would be happy with the salary at 18. But for an older adult with outgoings/mortgage/bills/children you can not survive that alone on the pay that is received . As a prisoner custody officer you deal with the same people to what the police deal with and the prison service on a daily basis . Taking abuse , dealing with weapons , illnesses , mental health, being assaulted along side many more things yet you see half their salary . Not worth it
Pros
Meeting new people
Cons
Low pay for dangerous job

Terrible hours and terrible pay
Prison Custody Officer (Former Employee) –  United Kingdom19 May 2019
Working here is like being a prisoner yourself. No social life, stuck either on the back of a van or in court all day dealing with violent and dangerous people with diseases - all for 9.40 AN HOUR.. people in bloody McDonald’s make the same. Also ZERO appreciation when for putting yourself in potentially life threatening situations. If you work here then kiss your social life goodbye because you can be working upwards of 60 hours a week sometimes.. AVOID!!!
Pros
The people you work with

Long hours, bad pay

Waste of space
PCO (Former Employee) –  Woking, Surrey13 May 2019
left a decent job to work for these goons
what your told and what the job actually is are 2 different things
Company is full of liars and backstabbers
Money is aweful considering you work forced overtime and dealing with criminals on a daily basis
the only people who actually enjoy this job literally have no lives
Massive staff turn around and they dont care about you
what they dont tell you is that they receive £30k per new employee they take on, but will easily get rid of you within a few weeks if they dont like the look of you, going as far to outright lie in front of you to do so.
Only good thing was the people I worked with
Most people working there are not fit for the role at all.
they offer you no support, and if your a member of the reserve forces you can forget getting any support to you in regards to that
Stay away from GeoAmey
No wonder they are losing the contract later this year
Pros

Great place to work
Prisoner Custody Officer (Current Employee) –  Stoke-on-Trent4 May 2019
Working with great colleagues on a mainly Monday to Friday basis, (there is some Saturday work) Getting a reasonable Salary for doing very little. Yes, you’ll have difficult and extremely challenging days on occasion, due to the unpredictability of the Job and the obnoxiousness of the minority of Prisoners, however, most days are like a Social Club gathering.
Pros
Job Security, mainly Mon-Fri, free Tea/Coffee
Cons
Can be long irregular hours

The company are a joke , they do not care about your wellbeing or work life balance at all !
You are worked into the ground day in day out and as for getting the annual leave you want, well you good luck with that !
The senior management are bullies and take advantage of the new enthusiastic staff getting them to work long hours
I have never known a company with such a big turn over staff , at the recruitment day you are sold the dream not really knowing what you are signing up for only to find out pretty soon on its not all its cracked up to be.
You are just a number. Alot of hard working experienced officers have left or been sacked only to be replaced by anyone and everyone , everyone starts somewhere but some of the staff who are recruited are scared of their own shadow ! Not what you need when dealing With criminals
The money is poor and to earn a decent wage you need to work atlest 50+ hours no good if you have a family or a social life.
The only good thing about this company are the staff , i have never meet such a strong hard working group of people who will have your back and look out for you.

If you want to keep your social life marriage and sanity don't do it !
Pros
Work with good people
Cons
Pay hours
