Interesting work, some great people/No advancement, ruthless company.
Mechanical Technician (Former Employee) – Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire – 7 February 2017
From the day GE took over from Converteam i was always concerned, I've never been a fan of large corporations and GE are one of the biggest.
So it was no surprise when in 2016 they moved one of their pawns on the table to Berlin even though we were still a prophet making site even more so than Berlin.
The work there was enjoyable and rewarding, I always found it interesting work assembling filter cubicles for wind turbines and it never seemed to get too monotonous,
Most of the people there were great and you could have a real good laugh with them.
Senior management had a lot to be desired and you always felt like it was "us and them" with the office staff upstairs and the shop floor below with little to none communication from management to the workers.
I would say i learned quite a lot as a mechanical assembler/wireperson but as for moving on from there would be a none starter as you never heard of any new jobs coming around and when you did it was when the position was filled usually by somebody handpicked.
All in all interesting job, great people but bad management and even worse company for advancement and job security!
Building cubicles for siemens was always interesting and fulfilling.
Never heard of any new jobs going until the place was filled by someone handpicked, Working for a huge corporation is always worrisome with job security.
