They are very welcoming for the first. You’re lucky to get a lunch break which they automatically take off your wages whether you get or not! Would not recommend. I was made to feel uncomfortable with passive aggressive comments. Unsociable hours and constantly standing

do not come here if you want to be a part of a valued & professional team
Spa Therapist/Receptionist (Former Employee) –  Formby, Lancashire18 February 2019
-For a start it is not a ''friendly team'' or a positive working environment, the spa is full of clique's, staff that work on the front desk which consists of a mixture of 'senior' therapists, (who don't actually do any treatments themselves) and the therapists who they are coincidentally close with outside of work, of which make a habit of disappearing off on a regular basis and leave others-particularly the apprentice therapists, to do their job for them whilst therapists who have full columns of treatments are left with no thanks or appreciation. If you're lucky and are friends with any of the seniors, you will get an easy day of work, it doesn't matter if you are full time or part time, seniors just don't care if you are a hard worker, it's just used against you, for example one of the therapists who works 2 days a week who has a close personal relationship with one of the seniors outside of work is regularly allowed to go home early, have an easy day of treatments with long gaps in between, so they are allowed to just sit in their room on their phone with this particular senior and sit off for most of the day. Some seniors also enjoy talking behind the backs of other members of staff in the break room, which includes personal matters too not just work related comments, extremely unprofessional and unfair.

-Another thing, sales and commission. We were told that our retailing had to improve so a scheme got set up so that all therapists would get higher commission on products or up-sells of treatments depending on how much they made. However, the therapists that do treatments
more... daily only get given a booklet to recommend to their client, who are then sent to the front desk if they want to buy anything. Whoever is on the front desk will then steal the receipt after the purchase, leaving the therapist who rightfully earned their sale without their commission. So theft basically occurs on a daily basis too. This leaves hard working therapists demotivated and disinclined to even try at their sales.

-''Working alongside a highly experienced team of therapists'' we have therapists amongst our team that completed their level 2 and 3 beauty therapy course in a 12 week fast track programme and got the job with basically no interview because they were that desperate for staff. Therapists cut treatments down, complete them at very low standards and even incorrectly, most of the pregnancy and hot stone massages carried out are done by therapists who have never even been trained in either massage technique which can be extremely dangerous, but as long as the treatments get done, seniors and management couldn't care less. Apprentice therapists who are not even trained in level 3 massage treatments are made to do back massages, and even full body massage, (including hot stone) on clients when the spa is short-staffed, because they would rather give you a disappointing treatment rather than just cancelling a column like any other spa or salon would in the circumstances.

-Wages are also a big problem with this work place, across the whole board from the hotel to the spa. We are NEVER paid on time, we have a 'cut off week' from the Sunday before we get paid, in this time our wages are sorted out and should be in our accounts by 12am on Friday just like most employers. This is never the case, we are always paid late at around 6pm so don't bother trying to plan anything for that day, and if you have bulls you may as well just accept they aren't getting paid, sometimes we don't even get our payslips until the day after.

-Days off change every week, and only 2 therapists are allowed off at a time so unless you book all your holidays at the beginning of the year there's no hope of getting time off that you want even though we have a team of over 30 therapists. You have to work EVERY weekend, but if you moan enough you may get one of the days off or your weekend off if you're extra lucky. But even still expect a phone call for you to work extra as they are constantly understaffed due to their over booking of guests, yet we get the blame for ringing in sick, management can't handle their responsibilities and just care about the money the company and themselves make.

-There is literally nothing to work towards, no promotions, no perks, no incentives, (unless you sell 5 or more products in a month which is near enough impossible when you never get given your sale) the only decent thing is the £8.13 we get an hour.
Overall, the company is in shambles and anyone still working there should be embarrassed of the service they are giving.

Depressing place to work
Staff (Former Employee) –  Liverpool, Merseyside16 November 2018
About as dead end as it gets, don't bother working hard or try to impress because it will never be recognised.
Senior management are useless, just sitting in their office, not proactive at all. They haven't got a clue what's going on.
Zero chance of progressing your career there so think of it as a stopgap while you look for something better.
Pros
Use of facilities, easy minimum wage
Cons
Depressing

Glass Collector/Bar Staff (Current Employee) –  Formby, Lancashire15 September 2018
It's an easy job to get, but the workplace here runs anything but smoothly. Underpaid for the amount you are expected to do, and sloppy on things like emailing out the rota for the following Monday on the Sunday before etc... Overstaffed so may struggle for hours.

Bar Staff (Former Employee) –  Formby19 July 2018
Over worked and under paid. If you work there never ask higher management for support as you won't get any they just like to sit in the office playing games on the computer trying to look busy. The only time you see them is when they have had a kick g and they take it out on staff. Don't yet me wrong some managers are OK but they have left now and got better jobs and don't blame them. So if you need a job look somewhere else and don't work there. And if you don't have a car you will never they there on time and you will get told off...

Worst place to work, but easy job to get
Bar staff (Current Employee) –  Formby hall golf resort & spa8 June 2018
Literally anyone can walk in an get a job here. Just know you’ll be paid the absolute minimum, overworked and basically have to take on jobs that other people are meant to. Try running a bar with 25-30 waiting customers at the bar, and 1 bar man. Try dealing with rude members while having to sort out where food goes.

Pros,
To be completely honest, it’s an easy job, from working here I have seen that anyone can get a job here. Literally anyone. So ignore it’s a first job I guess it’s a step into reality.

Cons,
Routers are a show, some routers aren’t even given out until the Monday your meant to work for the following week.

Limited staff. Try running a resturaunt seating 150 and a bar with only 3 bar staff an a lazy manager.

Pay. Yes everyone is on minimum unless you are a manger. Their is no way to progress in this company either.

Overall, if you get a job here good luck. Bar staff are helpful however don’t get to cosy. Atleast 2-3 people quit each week because of it. This means you will become a tour guide showing new staff round.

Enjoy. (Also you might be underpaid, or not paid at all, or even paid late. Good luck!)

Stress, miscommunication, inexperience, failure to promote within, Members have more sway than paying customers. There's 0% training but the staff make it what it is. If you need cash desperately, go for it.

A stressfull and difficult place to work with the people running it around.
Waiter (Former Employee) –  Formby7 March 2018
Formby hall golf qnd resort is a teribble place to work for anyone that isnt a caddy for the golf course. You are under paid, paid late, and sometimes not paid fpr a few weeks after you are supposed to. The owners are childish at times and difficult to work around. The managers are eben worse, they do nothing while getting paid a lot.

Formby Hall was a very nice place to work, I enjoyed meeting a full range of customers and the challenges that I sometimes had to deal with. However, working on the front desk meant it was unsociable hours & there was very limited opportunities.

Beauty Therapist (Former Employee) –  Liverpool, ENG15 September 2014
It was a lovely and very busy place to work
A typical day would require opening up the spa therapist rooms, setting up the massage beds, running through the treatment sheets and picking who would be working in what room and with who.
Would also require welcoming guests into the spa, serving them with a welcome drink, taking their lunch order and showing them round the spa resort and gym.
Treatments would begin at 10am and finish at 5.30pm, ranging from 30 minute treatments to 90 minute treaments using Espa products.
Pros
busy spa
Cons
bad management
