Working at Five Guys was hard but fun. I do recommend it for its benefits. If you are hardworking and fast this is your perfect place. Free meal provided.

Fun, but not very rewarding
Crew Member (Current Employee) –  Derby22 November 2018
This job is great due to a great team, everyone is like a family and are always willing to help each other.
In the short space of time that I've been there I've learnt all stations necessary.
A typical day for me personally would include cleaning the back of house area and washing the pots, whilst offering a hand if I'm needed in the front.
Management are great and importantly approachable. They are fair and do their best to keep everyone happy.
The hardest part of the job isn't anything to do with the job itself. Pay is a little poor due to the inconsistency of hours.
The most enjoyable aspects of this job are the team, we're like a family and always look out for each other. Also bonuses are good as well.
Pros
Free staff meal, great team, approachable management
Cons
Inconsistent hours, occasionally short staffed

Do not work at five guys especially (TCR)
Crew Member (Current Employee) –  Tottenham Court Road5 September 2018
Just the worst place to work in your life! General managers useless and so are the shift managers the only reason people stay is because of the crew members nice and friendly. The pay isn’t all that good tbh you gotta do what you gotta do for the money but this job isn’t worth your time, energy or sweat. Terrible GENERAL MANAGERS
Pros
Frees lunch, nice crew members
Cons
Long hours, general managers, very poor management

Managed to get some management experience whilst at uni which was fab! Good flexible working but 0 hour contracts can be toxic. Had a blast while with this business.

Demanding but rewarding
Cheshire Oaks, Shift Manager (Current Employee) –  Cheshire Oaks, Cheshire1 August 2018
Not your typical restaurant atmosphere, very fast paced kitchen with emphasis on team work and enjoyment to keep energy levels high. Great pay rates for employees but does demand hard work from them to meet company standards. the job satisfaction definitly comes when you go that little bit further for a customer and make their day that bit better, plenty of opportunities for that here.
Pros
Great team, Plenty of hours, Free lunch.
Cons
Shift work.

Good place for development
Crew member > Supervisor > Shift Manager (Current Employee) –  Birmingham New Street Station, West Midlands15 June 2018
Five Guys is a really good place to develop and enhance your skills. You continuously learn to work on multiple stations and multitasking.
On your typical day at work you basically have to provide excellent customer service and cook food up to Five Guys standards. Apart from that you have to keep the restaurant clean and well maintained.

The culture in the workplace is very nice. We try to be like one big family and we support each other in difficult times.

Five Guys gives you a great opportunity to grow. You can get promoted from a crew member to a manager if you show loyalty, passion for work and care about your colleagues and customers.
As a manager you have to run busy shifts, delegate small and large groups of people, maintain the store cleanliness, deal with customer's feedback, work in the kitchen, be responsible for cash handling and be responsible for the stock rotation/taking. You also have to be accountable for you crew progress and provide them essential training for their development.

For me the most difficult is to work long hours or stay up late. The working hours can be very exhausting.

The most enjoyable part is that it is a very fun workplace that provides you constant training.
Pros
free food, chance do get promoted
Cons
long hours, 0h contract, leaving late at night

long hours with short breaks
Crew Member (Former Employee) –  London12 June 2018
honestly, the only reason I stayed at five guys was because of my colleagues that I had grown very close with. other than that it was a complete shambles. The hours were terrible with most of us working 10 hours straight plus overtime with only a thirty minute break. managers couldn't even set up a proper rota. how was I expected to do a 4pm-2am shift then be back for a 7am-4pm shift???? it made absolutely no sense and I'm glad I left
Pros
awesome crew members
Cons
long hours with very short breaks and rubbish roots

Dishonest about contract, don't have the patience to train new staff.
Crew Member (Former Employee) –  Dundee, Dundee City30 May 2018
Wouldn't be truthful about what the contract was, as it was advertised as full-time and part-time, only to be a zero hour one instead. Dishonest about your performance, management decides your fate based on one shift only, not offering any further help for you to progress and train you properly. Wouldn't recommend unless you have relevant experience and nerves of steel. You will probably sign a used contract too.
Provide proper training, give constant advice and feedback if you want people to succeed in what they are doing and communicate efficiently. Stop being dodgy about important things and more importantly, solve your internal personal/management problems.
Pros
Good hourly pay rate, free lunch and drinks. If you are someone who likes being on their feet all the time, it's perfect for you.
Cons
Dishonest, No job security, Zero hour contract, You get sacked off for literally no reason

Good place to work
Five guys Crew Member (Current Employee) –  Clapham Common Station25 May 2018
I've worked at various branches for five guys, and it all really depends on luck. There's times where there have been amazing managers, crew, good hours everything! But something that is consistent is the hours are long!! So be prepared for that. But overall the kind of atmosphere that you'd find at the majority of five guys is a lively, loud and friendly environment.
Pros
Free five guys every shift you work.
Cons
The closing shift is the longest!

Fun place to work for!
Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Swansea10 May 2018
Five Guys is a great employer, for any young, enthusiastic, genuine person. The work hours are flexible, the culture is fantastic, if a little overwhelming at first, and the people employed by Five Guys are great. The hardest part of the job is probably the meticulous standard of cleaning which the company demands, but it is with both the customers and the work-force in mind. Customer Service and the actual making of the food were always really enjoyable.
Pros
Free lunches, great food you make yourself, to your taste. Great people.
Cons
Some unsociable hours, lots of hard, physical work.

Love the Five Guys Family
Crew Member (Current Employee) –  Reading, Berkshire2 May 2018
It is a really nice place to work in but it does imply a lot of physical strength and you have to be mentally prepared to get tired almost everyday. But overall, the friends you create there are friendships that will last forever.
Pros
The environment

long hours

Not a desirable place to work
Crew Member (Former Employee) –  Richmond upon Thames, Greater London25 April 2018
Awful job, low pay (will only pay off if you put in gruelling hours). Some of the people who worked there were nice although those were mainly crew members and not managers (though there were a couple of nice ones) they were unorganised and the rota was all over the place. Wouldn't recommend.

Enjoyable Team to work with
Crew Member - Part Time (Current Employee) –  Victoria Square2 April 2018
A typical day at work would include at some stage deal with customers, whilst also being able to move between various stations.
I so far have learned various roles in this job, it has shown me that I can fit into any role.
The management are very easy to work to, I enjoy working in this environment as I can actually talk to them like they are a friend not just a boss.
The hardest part of the job is when it is packed out the door with customer, however being a part of a Five Guys team makes it all worthwhile as everyone feels the same.
The most enjoyable part of the job is how everyone is easy to get on with, and watching customers enjoy each bite of their food.
Pros
Being part of the Five Guys Team
