Great experience
Of all the home care positions the council was the best run, managed and working standards. The service users were well looked after and it was reflected on the staff and management.

good job bad management
the job as a hole is good but the cost on management wages must be in excess of 200,000 a year to which is a waste of public money and does not need as many management staff to run outdoor amenities health and safety for workers is not the best. cheap or wrong P.P.E for the job or jobs that you do risk assessments for workers needs alot of improvement as well as health and safety wages need to be improved more to bring it in line with other local councils.

Remove/replace kitchen
With this water turned off and the sink is disconnected the joiners came in and stripped the whole kitchen. Once done, all pipe work was renewed and when the joiners renewed all units the sink was then fitted and made water tight. I learned their way of doing this type of job as this is the way they do all kitchens. Hardest part was when we were in filthy conditions ie needles, etc. Seeing the end result as the finished job was infinitely better than when we first got there. Culture wise, everybody knew their job and it was done with efficiency alongside a great camaraderie between all the workers even being in such tight spaces.

Excellent employer
I worked with East Ayrshire Council social department for 30 and throughly enjoyed the whole experience, a first class employer who look after the health safety and wellbeing of every employee.
Supportive and keen to help employees gain appropriate qualifications and move up the career ladder.

Highly recommended.

Local authority
Having worked for a good number of years with East Ayrshire Council I found them to be a fair employer with good prospects, with good policies and procedures in place for staff

Some helpful colleagues
Unless you stay in the Ayrshire area I wouldn't even apply for this job they give you no help on getting to work unless you work in the voids section. Colleagues are fun to work with but managers expect too much from you. Pay doesn't equal the amount of work that you do. Plus they also think that plasterer are tilers so be prepared to tile as well and roughcast and put up ceiling in some of the smelliest houses I have ever worked in
Pros
Good pension and holidays
Cons
Pay

Don’t work here
I worked here for 3 years and I can honestly say it was terrible, you get sucked in at the start everything is fine then it’s just goes down hill. The wages are terrible you will start at the bottom bracket, the management really don’t have a clue what they are doing especially in the repairs section where I worked.

If I could give someone advice it is to stay clear of this place it’s a toxic atmosphere. Where everyone just wants to gossip make up rumours. All in all it’s just a toxic atmosphere that just is not worth your health
