A nice place to work but many technical issues!
Sales Advisor (Former Employee) – Bournemouth – 5 October 2016
Working at Dunelm was really nice through the work day. My colleagues were nice, and the management was friendly and happy almost all of the time. The salary stated in my contract was great and the benefits you could receive from working for the company were fantastic.
However, my first issue that arose was I was never contracted specific hours. On my induction the management asked me loosely if I could "work 8 hours next Saturday" as a filling point until they sorted exactly when they wanted me to work. This was fine, I worked the hours, then suddenly I found myself locked into that exact shift, not allowed to have overtime, not allowed any flexibility, and no compromise, all even thought nothing was strictly contracted.
The second issue that arose was that I found that I had been taxed, but I didn't know this until I had already had three months worth of pay. This was because I was not told how to access my online paychecks even after countless times asking. After finding that I had been taxed, I was refunded the money after calling HM Revenue and sorting it through them. However (yet again), I then found that my hourly rate was £1.10 less than what was discussed and what I was contracted.
I've found that although the work life at Dunelm is nice and happy and friendly, they were not entirely organised with administration.
Bad admin and organisation
