Plenty of progression Routes. If you want them
Customer Consultant (Current Employee) –  Clacton-on-Sea, Essex6 September 2019
Excellent place to work, 30 min lunch, you get to meet plenty of customers which can be a excellent experience or a nightmare depending on how you conduct yourself.

i'd say you really get a chance to show your personality in the job. and if you're willing to apply yourseld then progression is usually just an application away.

mangement are supportive in most stores and are willing to help you with personal goals and the higher management are approachable.

even the CEO team are there to listen to feedback at various confrences so your voice is heard if thats what you want.
Pros
progression is achievable

Official response from Dixons Carphone
9 September 2019

Thanks for your review, we wanted to take a moment to reply.

We are sorry to hear about your issues with pay. We'd recommend discussing any issues with this with your line manager as this should always be a top priority to resolve.

Unfortunately as we are a retail business holidays can't always be booked last minute as management do need time to review rotas and plan in advance.

We are investing in our IT systems across the business over the next few years to ensure colleagues are supported to do the best job they can.

Many thanks

You'll be nothing more than a number
Customer advisor (Former Employee) –  Sheffield25 July 2019
Minimum wage with a bit of commission, that is if the company don't find a way to deduct it, customer gives you 8 out of 10 by feedback and you will be in trouble!
You are there to line the pockets of the manager and the shareholders, training is pointless as it's old school "slam" time in store, you are expected to hit a 33% insurance rate with every phone sold, and no "excuse" is good enough (such as they have 2 lots of insurance already) and the accessories are overpriced yet you are expected to hit a 70% asr (acsessorie strike rate)
They really don't care about you and they will manage you out if you are mediocre (I was top sales in a band 1 store)
Avoid unless you are a student, but don't expect any flexibility!
Advertised wage is in a perfect world where every KPI is hit, lowest paid off all phone sales so avoid like the plague.

It pays

poor and lazy first line managers make this place the worst. The managers will do everything to avoid taking an escalated call even when the customer as insisted. If you are good at sucking up to the managers you may stand a chance as they seem to have there favourites. The job itself is ok but using out of date systems and computers makes it harder. Pay is not bad if you get paid correctly for the overtime you put in.Could be ok if the managers did there jobs instead of sitting on the comandor desk chatting and belittling people who dare to ask for help. I personally didn't even bother asking rather would make a mistake than have to dare ask for support but did witness staff getting spike to like they were 3 years old . New management needed.

I worked on the white goods department, and let me tell you if you want to work for a company that treat you like a number and not a person, a company where management dont care about you and all there bothered about is there stats and not on trying to help you improve, a place where you will be singled out if you dont fit into there tight friend group then this is the place for you.

Avoid at all costs there is a lot of better companies out there

A place that lacks opportunity to progress, poor earning potential. That said majority of people you work with are great. The company is poor to customers and does not fulfil the potential it could.

Snr. HR Business Partner (Former Employee) –  Sheffield, South Yorkshire16 January 2019
Great business with some fantastic people.
A lot of focus on the customer, everything is geared towards the customer experience which is just a fantastic thing to be part of . The culture is open and there is a desire to find out what is really happening at the coal face so this can be translated into relevant policies and procedures.

Corrupt and Horrid Place.
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Sheffield, South Yorkshire6 December 2018
Okay so at first glance, and in training everything seems alright. Pay is great and there are good insentives.

The good parts end there.

You quickly realise that after training, you know actually nothing about the job and have to go theough countless mistakes and annoyed customers before you even remotely get this right.

You're always told that you aren't there to take abuse. That is a lie. Managers will make you take abuse as much as they please as long as it means they get out of a call.

As many reviews also mention here, half of them have no idea what they are doing. They take the absolute mick all the time, never on the floor or available when needed and never truly help with any of the issues.

Half of the customers that come through, you can fully understand their frustration but it doesn't matter what you think, because the money is all this company cares about. There is no real 'customer service' as they couldn't care less what their issue is, and then you end up being the one taking the brunt for an issue that you're on the side of the customer with due to the sheer corruption.

The hours are long and hard around peak time, with absolutely no leeway. Expect to work 6, 10 hour days at least every other week. And 5, 10 hour days on the other.

Not to mention, they days you work change every week, leaving no room for plans, and you have ABSOLUTELY NO SAY in this, they do not care about your life outside the workplace.

Also big one: If you have health issues and are prone to sick days, do not even remotely bother. Mental health or physical you will
more... be one of the first to be kicked off regardless of the amount of work you try to put back in to make up for it.

Oh however if the manager's take about 3 weeks off at a time due to sickness and go home early, or simply not put in any team building time that's perfectly fine, of course(!)

All in all, save yourself the months, and just go anywhere else because you will be used and torn down like you wouldn't believe, and they couldn't care less.

Unrealistic targets, managers who are too busy sleeping with colleagues despite getting married soon. White goods dept is a shambles badly run and managed. Staffing levels are a joke.

Stressful but pays well
CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR (Current Employee) –  Sheffield11 July 2018
Team Knowhow, like any company has good and bad points.

The Good:
The pay is good for what the job is. Starting rate is £9ph and there are opportunities to go up in wage, considering you meet targets for your stats. Working for Team Knowhow means you get 10% in any Currys PC World store and 30% off mobile phone contracts through Carphone Warehouse. The contact centre in Sheffield is easily accessible via Supertram. You get 2 15min breaks and a 45min dinner on most shifts. There are sometimes retailers that come onsite to sell hand made fudge or make up and perfumes.

The Bad:
Expect to be ignored by managers as if they're not looking at holidays online or talking to each other, they'll be busy and par you off on another manager, meanwhile you have a disgruntled customer on hold.
There's not sufficient training on new policies, for example GDPR. We took a quiz online that didn't even outline how this affected our day to day job role. There's NO motivation. You have to
meet unrealistic stats that were set by people who don't work on the phones.
Our service is so bad (deliveries, stores, repairs) that 7/10 calls will be complaints from angry customers.
There's NO complaints department - More or less everyone can make complaints for customers.
The systems are terrible, outdated, prevent us from helping customers and constantly crash/ don't work.
It will take you 10 minutes in a morning to find a desk with a seat that isn't broke and a mouse/ keyboard/ computer that actually works.
PEAK - No games, Christmas music, incentives, nothing as you're bombarded
more... with over 100 calls in the queue and you're working a 10 hour shift.  less

Can be great and terrible at the same time it really depends on the management you fall on because they can either make you like the job or utterly despise being there.
Pros

Cons
Hours change every single week, Barely any work and home balance and the management seems to be dreadful 9 times out of 10.

Customer Consultant (Former Employee) –  sheffield12 March 2018
A typical day at the work would be opening up the store, going through yesterdays sales and purchases made by myself and colleagues, having a 10 minute meeting with the manager of Curry's if i was to open the shop floor.

Working with Carphone improved my communication and body language, as one most always engage in the customers conversation, it also tough me how to work independent and how to take responsibility of my actions.

Managing a high paced place was difficult because i had to be ready to consult all types of people, restocking the shop floor when the items was running out.

The carphone workplace had variety of mixed backgrounds, that included Yemen, Pakistan, Nigerian, English.

The hardest part of the job was bringing customers to the carephone shop floor, because it was a store in a store being carphone inside currys, so customers weren't interested in our products so we had to perfect our speech to bring them to our side.

The most enjoyable part of the job is speaking to new customers, as they would bring there kids and it was fun playing with them.
Pros
restaurants were near by the store and discounts with networks was available.
Cons
some days the store was empty.
