Sad act
Manager (Former Employee) –  Cambridge, Cambridgeshire14 October 2018
Good and bad in this company. Sadly, more bad than. Good. Too many bums on seats. Lack of experienced staff. Managed to wipe 60% off share price last year.
Nepotism is rife. Bully boy management at lower level.
However, some good people still remain. Future looks bleak.
Pros
Free suit & tie.
Cons
You have to work days & nights & wkends..

Read your contract
Funeral director (Former Employee) –  Kent23 September 2018
Work colleagues are great, management need a lot to be desired. All for female employees. No people skills, wages well below average, expect everyone to work for nothing. Only interested in shareholders unless you're in with management who have no backbone. No loyalty or continuity. Not interested in keeping staff and don't trust anyone. Guilty until proven innocent. Don't recognise the good you do but one complaint and they're on you.
Pros
Job satisfaction and great staff.
Cons
Management, wages and out of hours. Working for nothing

Dont waste your time
Fso (Current Employee) –  London18 September 2018
Low pay
0 hour contracts (full time casual) without a sniff of a fulltime contract. Its the companies way of keeping costs down
0 chance to progress unless you got your head stuck under the area managers desk
0 holiday pay
0 sick pay
Favouritism is rife.
Pay guaranteed to be wrong so you have to keep track of your hours.
Upper management dont care about their staff. You are nothing to them and they only care about profits.
Can easily lose your job if you rock the applecart.

Only positive is the guys you work with at a lower level

After honeymoon period not a good employer
senior funeral director (Former Employee) –  Gloucestershire7 August 2018
The latest headlines about 'fierce competition' is simply because these rip-off merchants are charging extortionate prices for what on the outside MIGHT seem like a good service. But if the paying public went behind the scenes and saw just how many corners (or rather very large bends) were being cut, they might well consider leaving their relatives in safer hands. I also couldn't agree more with previous reviews. I was employed as an experienced funeral director. New Manager was clearly drafted in to clear out the old wood. Now they can't hold staff down, close offices for weeks - loosing funerals - how good is that? Staff who have a great knowledge are not valued
I would't want to be part of such a money grabbing organisation now and I can only feel sorry for the bereaved who need sensitive handling and all they are pestered to do is stump up money in advance of any service being provided. Dignity 'Caring' funeral services. Well now you have it the company that took 'caring' out of funerals! Thinking of a job with them. DON'T!

Stay Well Away
Funeral Arranger (Former Employee) –  South Wales9 June 2018
This company do not like experienced people.
They do not believe in equality, diversity or fairness at work.
The management are bullies and treat staff very bad.
They pay you what they think you are worth, usually the male staff are paid much more than females who do the same job.
They are only interested in profit making and selling funeral plans and memorial stones to those still grieving for their loved ones (very insensitive).

Funeral Director (Former Employee) –  Funeral homes10 February 2018
If you want a career in a Funeral Directors join a private independent company who actually care for their employees and customers and not the profits, selling headstones and selling funeral plans when arranging a funeral. Very poor senior management. No support by senior management.
Pros
Caring for families
Cons
Very high costs, no support for employees, care for their profits. COE wages in excess of £2 million per year.

Funeral Assistant (Former Employee) –  Birmingham6 February 2018
Most of the staff are dedicated and compassionate.

However, Managers put pressure on their staff to achieve financial targets and both families and sub-contractors are treated poorly.

They offer little to no support and you are made to feel dispensible.
Pros
Uniform provided

Terrible company who charge extortionate rates as provide awful support to their staff. They do not care about anything but profits! Managers are thugs and bullys!!! We were b forced to pray in meetings! The charges they make are over double other funeral companies. This company does not care about their staff, their staff or the deceased! If it wasn't for their staff they would go bankrupt.... and they deserve to!

Stay away from this company
Dignity employee (Former Employee) –  West Midlands19 June 2017
This company is only interested in ripping customers off by charging their extortionate fees for their services, duty of care to deceased in some Birmingham branches leaves a lot to be desired, if some families knew how their loved ones were treated they would most certainly think twice about using them. Terrible management who don't know their A*** from their elbow, babyface mangers put in roles through favouritism who couldn't run a bath let alone multiple areas! Morale of staff rock bottom, wages leave a lot to be desired, avoid like the plague!!!!

Terrible management!
Funeral Arranger (Former Employee) –  Leicester, Leicestershire3 February 2017
Working with bereaved families was a wonderfully fulfilling job that I loved. But within this company the management is laughable, no actual management abilities, management is selected from friends and family members of the regional manager. Two of four of the actual funeral directors were children of the regional manager and the area manager was in the same lodge as the regional manager! No accountability for extreme failings made by managers, resulting in broken bones of staff! Avoid this company, not the profession.
Pros
Fullfilling role
Cons
Terrible management and its impossible to leave work at the door.

Administrator (Former Employee) –  Loughborough, ENG10 September 2015
Good team support due to the Industrial I worked in. Gave me a lot of experience in reading people. For example no families are the same when they lose a nearest and dearest, and be able to read people and their body language is a way of knowing how they are dealing with the situation.
Pros
Free or discounted funeral for family memebers

Hearse Driver (Former Employee) –  London7 January 2015
To explain this comment its sad because I only get to see people at there worst and I want to help people see them smile and not just see despair. I have enjoyed the busy nature of this job but have ceiling out at the position of hearse driver leading to me seeking other employments.

Duty of care to staff is poor
Funeral Arranger and Trainee Funeral Director (Current Employee) –  Southampton, ENG29 October 2014
My career started with another large funeral company who's management treated staff with respect as mature individuals and who listened and acted upon issues staff may of had and valued the good, dedicated staff members. The most enjoyable part of the job is to of arranged and conducted a family funeral successfully, to the highest of standards, to the relief and comfort of the family and placing a small smile albeit in such sad circumstances.

The hardest part is not being able to take away a family's pain, anguish, upset and distress.
Management to lead by example and not to discriminate.
Pros
Not at this time
Cons
Lack of support for staff
