"I wish I had done it sooner. I love it!"

Our Support Workers come to us for all sorts of reasons, and from many different backgrounds. Some, like Ricky, have had thoughts about working in care for a long time. Ricky built a career in construct ion for 20 years before deciding it was time for a change. “My mum has always worked in care so it was always something I felt I wanted to give a go, ” he says. “ I wish I had done it sooner. I love it, it’s better than I expected."

Others, like Vicky, saw their first steps in care as “ just a job, it paid the bills”. But Vicky says she soon found there was much more to the job, and she enjoyed building a rapport with clients, learning to treat them like family, and taking courses to discover more about the different approaches to care. Vicky's career has developed since joining Crossroads and is now one of our service managers “I actually enjoyed getting up each morning and going to work, and it was the first job that did that for me,” says Vicky.

For Marie, a career as a Support Worker is an exciting challenge and a great opportunity to build relationships. "Every day is different, ” says Marie. “ It’s not the same thing each day when you are working with people. ”
