A famous school but average workplace, but problems for individuals with disabilities
Servery Assistant (Former Employee) –  Cranleigh, Surrey29 November 2018
Cranleigh School as a whole as many people would know is a very famous school situated in a building that has over 300 years of history under its belt but as a workplace its a different story I worked as a servery assistant there. How I would describe a typical day at Cranleigh School is that you would start early (to do breakfast service) or mid afternoon (like I did) you would go in sign on and get your work safety gear on then you'll start you'll be designated a counter to work behind (or in my case the same counter every day) the food will change day by day so its not the same stuff you would be offered a lunch break before or halfway through lunch service which was always nice then after lunch break we all would clear up the servery which was reasonably okay to do but can be tedious at times. Then after that you will be on your own (or with someone) to do tasks until about 5:30pm (unless if you worked in the morning and finished early afternoon) but in my case I was given the most basic of tasks because of my autism and they couldn't trust me with anything complicated so I ran off a list of tasks to do which were the same every single day apart from if there was an event going on in the afternoon (such as a strategy meeting for the teachers) then between 4:30-5pm we prepare the servery for supper (as they called it) then have a break till 6:45pm to serve supper then finish at 7;30pm. Management I found was good but a bit vague at times but you always knew how you would doing at the job and instructions are easily understandable or easily found. I believe the enjoyable part  more... of the job was you can always enjoy the lovely food that the chefs make its really good stuff ! and the holidays between term time and non term time was pretty good as well and the people are nice too. But the hardest part of the job itself was keeping everything to a time schedule every task had to be done to a certain time and because of my problems and also that I'm not the fastest of individuals that was always a challenge and it almost broke me at times everything was just such a rush. but if you are fast paced and keep up with things and also interested in catering and education then I would recommend working for Cranleigh School it might be the right career for you.  less
