Great workplace with fun colleagues & great managers
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) –  Salford, Greater Manchester6 November 2019
The atmosphere on the contact centre floor is really lively and friendly. It's a great place to meet new friends and enjoy your time at work. There's plenty of support when and if you need it with team managers and coaches on hand all the time.
Although there is initially a lot to learn, the trainers and academy team are really good and make sure you have lots of support before you are placed into your team on the floor and make you feel comfortable asking any questions you have.
I really enjoy working here and have made friends for life on my team.

Irrelevant job sent to me
IT Technician (Former Employee) –  Manchester, Greater Manchester4 September 2019
I put job titles such as "administration" or "IT Technical" or "Librarian" in the search and keep getting "lifeguard" or "oil rig maintenance" in.

If the programming was done better for this site, you'd have a lot more people using it... having said that, if it worked, people would find their perfect job and you'd be unemployed.

I enjoy the company in terms of the friends that I have made there but in terms of progression, it is a bit misleading as there a numerous targets to be met before even being considered

Nothing works, the managers do not help when you need them. No sick pay. Almost modern slavery. Flithy toilets and canteen {also very small and uncomfortable}. HR is the worst. They lie about good shifts when you have no say in that, work weekends and Bank Holidays without extra pay.
Pros
Fortnightly pay
Cons
Everything else

Awful place to work
Advisor (Current Employee) –  Manchester10 April 2019
The management are an absolute joke. They treat you like a statistic, the ops managers are even worse and put on a performance when the clients come in. You cant do anything right and half the computers do not work after over a year of being reported to IT. The recruitment lie to you about the shifts you do, you cant have anything at your desk apart from a water bottle but then ignore the fact that other advisors have loads on their desk. You have to be a favourite to progress and getting time off is near impossible. Stay clear of the place.

Low wages, high turnover - short term only
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) –  Manchester, Greater Manchester20 November 2018
Working for the British Gas ASV campaign. The only positive about working here is that the job itself is simple to grasp and, for the most part, not very demanding. Customers will often complain and there is no training or support to deal with the emotional and mental strain of listening to 15-30 minute rants day after day. The client provides very little options to satisfy the customer and you will be explaining to many of them why they should accept being placed in a completely unreasonable situation. The quality assessment team will fail you for making a mistake in a call on an issue that you were never trained in. The knowledge on the floor about the campaign and the client is laughable and often you will find yourself dealing with queries that nobody can seem to answer. There is a clear lack of communication between the company and the client and the information provided by managers will usually be contradicted by another department. Forget about the bonuses as you will likely never see anything close to the full amount, whereas people who hardly make a call will earn double. The managers are next to no help when dealing with complaints and will often direct you to other advisors for guidance, if there is even a manager available on the floor. Most know better than to bother asking the their actual team leader and go straight to another agent. It is quite clear that the last thing they want is to actually take over a complaint from you and will reprimand you for following the procedure correctly, simply because it makes more work for them. They will pull you up and ask  more... you to explain why your productivity is not as high as it should be whilst ignoring the obvious discrepancies e.g. advisors who apparently make over 100 appointments everyday or spend 1 hour dialling in an 8 hour shift. There is very little room for progression as the company does not see any difference between hard work and zero effort, and hard-working advisors will be surrounded by people laughing and joking for the same reward. The company offers nothing to motivate their employees and occasionally presents us with an 'incentive' which is never followed through and would not be necessary if employees were treated with basic respect.  less
Pros
Job is fairly simple, Diverse workforce
Cons
Working environment can be stressful, minimal support from management, no reward for hard work, promises from higher up never kept, protocols that managers will concede make no sense.

Ridiculous company!
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Manchester7 October 2018
Terrible working hours, terrible micro management system, Terrible pay compared to the amount of work and responsibility placed on you, plus with all that responsibility they treat you as a child, timed bathroom breaks, I had left and qualified for bonus and then they changed the structure around and wouldn’t pay me it even though I qualified the month prior with the old structure in place, forever making it more difficult to achieve, management are terrible, don’t know what they are doing half the time. Favouritism is a huge issue. Can’t even get a coffee at start of shift b/c canteen opens as soon as you need to start, although managers can sit around and chill -prices in canteen are sky high b/c shops are so far you would be late off break.. No phones allowed again managers can sit and chill on phones.
No real progression available. Just a really bad company to work for. It’s a hire/fire culture, most people leave as soon as possible.
Pros
Colleagues (my particular manager)
Cons
Everything else.

productive fun in workplace
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Manchester7 May 2018
A typical day at convergy's was a group meeting where the team leader would go over with the whole group and individuals there achievements and none achievements of the prior day.
then they would explain what targets are set for today ,then set targets for individuals, then the staff would be immediately sent on the phones to make outbound calls from 10am until 7pm depending what shift you was on.
I learnt how to speak with confidence to a group of people.
the workplace culture I would say is one of the best I have ever come across .
The hardest part of the job is after convergys have put you on a training course for weeks, to be a team leader, the hardest part of the job is to ascertain that actual position. It was never available the actual role. so it was pointless training staff for a role that wasn't there.
the most enjoyable part of the job was the appreciation you received after meeting your target.
Pros
incentives
Cons
long hours
