Good, but poor contract management
QA TESTER (Former Employee) –  Southam26 August 2019
Codemasters would often issue contract renewals within the final hour of your contract. Other than that it was a ver fun place to work! Maybe the pay could have been a little bit better,

Fun Workplace
QA tester (Current Employee) –  Southam, Warwickshire23 June 2019
Codemasters is a really nice environment for most people, however the nature of the contracts makes the job security almost nonexistent.
Management in most departments are amazing, and there is always an event that's been organized during non-work ours for the employees.
Pros
Free Gym
Cons
Job Security, Location

Okay for a starting job
Programmer (Former Employee) –  Southam, Warwickshire23 November 2018
Great company culture, I would absolutely recommend as a starting job.

Progression is a bit more difficult and salaries are a bit less than the average for the region.
Pros
Canteen food, friendly colleagues, interesting work
Cons
office is in the middle of nowhere

Fun, laidback atrmosphere.
QA Tester (Former Employee) –  Southam, Warwickshire24 August 2018
Codemasters has an enjoyable and open working atmosphere, unfortunately management seems to be stuck in the past and uses outdated systems, as such it does nothing to keep hold of talent. Some line managers have excellent people skills, others had short tempers and didn't know how to get the best out of staff.
Pros
Flexible hours, free gym.

QA Technician (Current Employee) –  Southam, Warwickshire2 August 2017
Codemasters is a great place to work, especially as a first job in the industry.

Everyone is approachable and friendly, always willing to lend a hand and answer any questions you may have.

Un studio de développement a l'anglaise
Senior Network Programmer (Former Employee) –  Birmingham13 April 2017

A good company changed for the worse
Experienced QA Technician (Former Employee) –  Southam, UK1 April 2015
A politic 'use and lose' people, lousy management with advancement of careerists instead of hard-workers.
Quality of products down the cliff after moving more and more projects in India.
The company has gone through redundancy processes seceral timesin few years, that makes all the environment unreliable and unstable. Career advancement was a joke for QA.
I got hired with a permanent contract that after not even two years ended up in redundancy. 40 people in total lost theirs jobs in my office this time.
The attempt from HR to provide us another internal job was a pitiful facade. All the spots were already givena and they wasted our time with interviews with no real chance to get the role.

All the credibility of the company results very disappointing.
Too bad because the products could be good and the environment between colleagues is friendly and relaxed.
Pros
friendly environment
Cons
worst management ever and unreliable HR

A great working environment
Xbox 360 Functional Lead (Current Employee) –  ENG13 January 2015
Day to day can differ from testing to being in meetings or working alongside the development teams or the localisation teams. Performing track tests, local multiplayer, audio checks and language/regional tests. Doing FTC checks (functional test cases for Microsoft and Sony). Patch/DLC and submission checks.

I have learned to be very organised and forthright. How to manage man manage, identify your staffs’ strengths and how to motivate your team.
The direct management are friendly and hard working. The atmosphere is a relaxed one.

The working relationship is very good; it's probably one of the best working experiences. The department is more like a family than co-workers.

The hardest part of the working here is the projects get bigger and bigger but the test team does not increase in numbers. Also the test time available to you does not increase or leave little room for any delays.
The most enjoyable part is seeing all that hard work and hours put into a project produce a great review and score.
Pros
Free games, flexi-time and Time in lieu
Cons
Low advancement

Highly talented and creative workforce
Experienced Artist (Former Employee) –  Southam, Warks18 February 2013
Typically my work involved modelling car racing tracks and road sections. This included houses, trees and street furniture etc.
I learned many techniques from some true experts in the field.
The work is to very high standards and must be completed to hard deadlines.

Codemasters is the largest and oldest UK video games company and is well managed but face a very difficult market.
Pros
good subsidised canteen, company bar.
Cons
they have announced redundancies
