Challenging and extremely interesting
Community Education Worker (Former Employee) –  Variety17 October 2017
The job involved working with a range of people from children to adults in a variety of settings from hostels, schools, community centres, churches and residential settings including international work.
Much of the work demanded you being self motivated and involved seeing pieces of work completed from education packs, issue based work like anti-bullying, addiction and HIV/AIDS.
Also the residential work involved living in different locations with children and adults and international work in Belarus, Italy, Canada, Denmark, Germany which gave you an insight into different facilities, cultures, travel and organisational skills.
It was extremely interesting as well as challenging but offered such a variety of work and personal experience and insight into human nature.

worked well with the staff , who all seemed very able and willing to learn. I provided Remedy training to 30 staff and vendors.
I additionally went to provide consultancy for the Remedy product.
The client was trying to understand the capabilities and features that were no longer supported in the new product.
Pros
good environment

A little silo'ed

Work Experience Concierge (Former Employee) –  Leith, City of Edinburgh31 May 2017
A typical day at work included maintaining and cleaning various blocks of flats in and around Leith, picking up rubbish and disposing of it appropriately, heavy lifting of equipment. I learnt how to operate CCTV equipment, how to deal with confrontation and the importance of hard work and efficiency within the workplace.

Bullying culture
Criminal Justice Social Worker (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh16 April 2017
The culture within social work in this area is one of bullying and ticking boxes. You will be fine if you like flirting and giggling with the bosses, massaging their already large egos. They are not interested in social work values or how you engage with clients, only how many boxes you can tick. Managers are totally out of touch with what work is done and what needs to be done with clients. Don't work for CEC if you think respect, dignity and integrity are important in the workplace.
Pros
Can't think of any
Cons
The list would be too long

Excellent local team
Social Worker (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh City, City of Edinburgh9 April 2017
Worked in a team where staff support was particularly high with in the team but very poor between senior management and the team. Never came across as their concern or their role. Very clearly moved to a corporate management style of "do what you are told and do not challenge senior managers authority or decisions". Felt very much like it was constantly moving more to a them and us situation. No real connection with staff teams and no real recognition from senior managers that this was the case. Blame culture and atmosphere of fear also seemed to be much more prevalent and on the increase.
Pros
Supportive team environment
Cons
Constantly asked to do more with less becoming overly pressured

lack of accountability
Administrator (Former Employee) –  Edinburgh, Midlothian10 January 2017
Working for the Council is not as good as it could be as anyone can get away with a poor job as there is no accountability for actions and for people who take advantage of this it gives all of the other hard working colleagues a bad name.
Pros
helpful colleagues
Cons
dealing with a grumpy public

Due to restructure there is no room for progression. The council doesn't promote within the organisation. The job has become stale and repetitive, management delegate more and more tasks.
