Brilliant staff
Staff and locality managers are absolutely brilliant. Very fast-paced but relaxed environment. However Apprenticeships are only contracted a year and little to no chance of progression or security within the job.

Productive and focus on solving problems
I would recommend Birmingham Citizens Advice to any person who comes to the UK as an immigrant. The learning is excellent. It is a gateway portal to understanding UK culture, working ethics and relationship management. They will teach you everything including how to handle phones, answer emails, correspondence, the laws of the land, housing, benefits, education, immigration, and so on.

A nice place to work
The only problem i see working for the Ctiizens Advice is that a lot of the roles are funded. So, the job security isn't the best. And you have to re-apply and take another interview, for the job you are already doing. But the working environment is good.
Pros
nice people
Cons
mostly temporary cntracts

Relaxed and accommodating
Employers are very accommodating of people with mental health needs and always stress a good work-life balance. Everyone is extremely passionate about what they do.

Bad experience
Extremely poor management resulted in me leaving the job just prior to retirement date. Would not recommend. It was like going back at least 40 years in time

Wouldn’t recommend joining this sinking ship of a business/charity
The worst year of my life.
Management was a complete joke and the majority of the senior staff would bully anyone who they felt didn’t belong there, making the staff members feel the pressure of quitting.

It came to my attention at the end of my time there that management would have little meetings about who they would like to get rid of if they didn’t fit in.

Some colleagues would undermine you in smaller departmental meetings.

Appalling - Avoid!
Please, please read this before contemplating working at Kirklees Citizens Advice & Law Centre! Do not be fooled by the reputation of Citizens Advice, otherwise working here will be a massive shock.

The management is utterly corrupt and one manager's nickname is the 'Smiling Assassin', I kid you not. This manager knows just enough employment law to take staff right to the edge of appalling employment practice and they ensure that nothing they do will be evidenced.

The training, considering the advice you're meant to give clients, is wholly shambolic. You're given about two weeks to sit alone at a computer and read lots of information and take several multiple-choice tests. That's it, seriously. After this, you are expected to advise the general public.

Your write-ups of client contact will be scored 1 (bad) to 3 (good) and you will be expected to re-contact clients if you have not provided all the correct information. This scoring system is also used to demoralise staff, especially if they want to get rid of you (see below).

You are treated like a skivvy and with utter contempt, especially those who work on the telephones (staff can't even have their bags/phones at their desks in this department). You have no employment rights whatsoever and if you raise an issue you will be managed out of the place, pronto!

I worked here for almost three years and watched as over 25 people left, all disgruntled, angry and disappointed. That was over half of the entire paid staff. The entire Debt Team, even the manager, walked out one week, a coordinated affair. How

Volunteer
It is very nice being part of the solution and providing people with information to face their day to day problems, tho I felt that the volunteers were not properly motivated nor taken into consideration.

Amazing
I volunteered for Citizens Advice for over two years and only left due to other work commitments. The management are very friendly, professional and actually care about the opinions and feelings of the staff. They never presented as a dictatorship or micro managed and as a result as a volunteer I felt able and confident enough in my role to ask for extra responsibilities and query anything that I did not understand

A great place to work, amazing dedicated people. I have never worked for such a fair, non judgemental and kind organisation. It’s you and your skills that are important

Farely a good working environment. Very few ethnic minority representation. Most ethnic minority people do not stay due to unfair treatment , still a long way to reach racial equality quite contrary to the values they represent.

Fast paced team environment
I worked in a voluntary capacity, therefore there was no salary. The experience was great, they are willing to educate you on areas of your expertise, whilst encouraging growth in new areas. You must be sensitive to the client and confidentiality is key.

Glad I was sacked.
Unless you want to receive feedback on the floor in front of other members of staff, say good morning and be greeted with total silence and expect to have call reviews where you are deemed as argumentative if you speak, then don't waste your time. The financial benefits are outweighed by the negatives.

Not as expected
Really disappointing and stressful to work for especially being as they give out advice to others regarding employment. I was expecting an organisation that was setting a good example, unfortunately not.

Love working here
The atmosphere is always friendly, although sometimes very fast paced, everyone has time for you even if its just a smile or a 'hello' - due to the nature of the workload here, everyone genuinely want to be here and help others. It seems to be in the nature of everyone here to do what they can in their power to support those in need from benefits, food vouchers to training and job placements.
Pros
Free parking, friendly staff

a very miserable place to work
Advising the public is the best part of this job. The worst part is the miserable working atmosphere. It was pointless, being made to complete debt assessment tools which did nothing for the client, simply accumulated some kind of obscure internal points system
