Nurse Case Manager (Former Employee) –  Glasgow, Glasgow1 September 2018
Very productive and a pleasure to work for, a typical day is very busy and customer focused, i have learnt a lot and have developed as a person, work place culture is positive but it is a very intense and stressful job with pressures to meet targets.

The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing you have made a difference to someone's life and have provided a good customer experience.

Don't bother unless it's your first job
Premium Analyst (Former Employee) –  Greenock, Inverclyde13 August 2018
Work/life balance good, only in terms of you leave - you forget about your job until next morning. A couple of events during the year to try and keep everyone happy. Pay is horrible, one of the worst. Pressure and demands are high, training doesn't come even close to what you really be doing. Management is non-existent and incompetent, just relying on staff members.

Advice to Cigna - train your managers better. The fish rots from the head. It's not about giving tasks, it's about actually pushing back to unrealistic senior management ideas when needed. And making sure your staff members have a confortable environment to work in. Instead you think that more pressure and urgency will make people work harder.
Pros
OK place for a first job (or if you are desperate)
Cons
Completely incompetent management and confusing priorities

Comfortable working environment despite work pressures
Senior Travel Claims Assessor (Current Employee) –  Plymouth, MS23 July 2018
*A typical day at work involves incoming calls for new and existing claims and taking action on post and email allocations.
*In my four year with the company I have learnt many skills in handling calls professionally, showing the correct amount of empathy whilst building rapport with the customer. I have learnt to remain calm and maintain a professional approach when faced with volatile situations when dealing with complaints.
*The hardest part of the job is complaints handling, but I have a natural ability to empathise and always manage to control the conversation ensuring the customer is made fully aware of their right to complain, yet often resolving the situation there and then.
*The most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction of helping someone in their time of need. It can be very stressful and worrying for someone claiming the first time. Many times they are faced with a situation they do not know how to deal with, and the added stress of being in a foreign country with language barriers. Being able to speak Greek to an advanced level I was often called upon to translate documents, or make calls to Greek authorities, as part of the claim investigation.
*The work culture is positive although can be stressful during high seasons where high call volumes are experienced.
Pros
Free beveridges
Cons
Shift patterns were very irregular rather than on a rolling basis

A typical day at work would be setting up systems and logging on ready to take inbound calls from customers wanting to set up travel insurance policies. The hardest part of my job is having to say to a customer that we cant cover for the medical condition. The most enjoyable is speaking to new people every day, keeping the role interesting.

Interesting place to work
Premium Analyst (Former Employee) –  Greenock, Inverclyde6 April 2018
A typical day at work started around 9, ended around 5 and involved making sure that the clients requests that were within reason were met.

I learned how to use the knowledge of the team to achieve objectives.

Management is usually supportive, but oftentimes don't know how to find solutions.

There was a great atmosphere in the office and generally help was readily available.

The hardest part of the job is dealing with some of the clients.

leave your caring and nursing ethics at the door as they are only interested in saving money to create bonuses at the end of the year. very high pressured, your work is scrutinised, your achievements are not celebrated, only your "human error" mistakes.

Good employer but poor management and career possibilities
Product Manager (Former Employee) –  Glasgow22 January 2018
Cigna are very big on trying to keep employees happy and their work life balance. This is not necessarily displayed by paying [especially lower banded] employees a fair salary for a fair days' work though.

They do provide excellent benefits including an annual bonus which is quite poor for lower bands of employees.

There is no such thing as career progression in Cigna but overall I would say they were a good company to work for if you had limited ambition.

Salary should be better

Coach/Verifier. (Former Employee) –  Plymouth7 November 2017
The jobs and roles within Cigna were varied and challenging however the treatment of staff was inconsistent and the workload applied to members of the same team would vary widly without any recognotion of this fact. The company was generally very good at factoring home life issues into your working week, being as flexible as you could reasonably hope for. Throughout the various teams with which I interacted there was usually a good atmosphere, friendly competition and peer support.
Pros
Structured workload.
Cons
Inconsistent assessment of staff performance.

Eligibility and Distribution Analyst (Current Employee) –  Greenock25 October 2017
Just a dreadful place where you're little more than a walking robot, typing names into computers in some shape or form. The wages are poor, the management is the most incompetent you could ever come across, there's little security as contracts are ripped up to suit with no recourse, there's no progression unless you're a teacher's pet.

Unless you're really desperate or happy to do the most mundane tasks for little reward or opportunity, just don't bother.

Working within Cigna brought a mix of emotions on a typical day to day basis. The general feel around the workforce is negative, unmotivated and underappreciated by most.

Horrid place to work with absolute muppets running the shop!
Telemarketing Agent (Former Employee) –  Plymouth, Devon1 April 2017
The people really make this job somewhat bearable! Trying to get rid of AA and RAC plans to people who didn't realise that they had ticked the box to agree further communication is a really nice way to keep people calm and happy to chat with you. Most of the management team were an absolute joke! Sneaky and no desire to help you do well at your job no real support system there at all just people marching around trying to be more important than they actually are! Going in at 1 and putting your headset on is difficult when you don't feel any sort of unity by anyone. The scripts were utter tripe and coming back after lunch (5 o' clock) was the most painful thing on a summers evening! It's not a good job to have unless you're a student or single and don't mind getting in near ten at night after being shouted at and bullied by customers with no support from your managers!
Pros
Coffee & fruit
Cons
Soul destroying
