Been with CGI 15+ years, would love to join back if i find something interesting. Have learned a lot from CGI and have grown as well, all these years i have seen wonderful people working with me as a team member and all my Line Managers were really supportive. Thank you CGI.

My experience of CGI UK IT has been fantastic, from interview to being tasked with clients and management. They are people focused and look after their staff well and would personally recommend them to anyone.

Would recommend, and hope they prosper going forward.

Work was intense at times, and I needed to be flexible, but enjoyed their work from home ethic

My time at CGI was awful and literally not the most amazing memory for me.

If you are looking for an entry level job then look no better than CGI but do no make this as a long term job. CGI has a motive towards having high turn over of staff, not protecting staff enough from bullying in the workplace and if you don't have any management looking after you then you will be eyed upon by management who will continue to berate you for the way you perform and also nit pick at every little thing that you do.

My memory was filled with a lot of bullying, being picked on despite deliverance of projects, they never once looked after my mental health and instead decided that the best way for me to suffer was to be shouted at. The only downside for me was not to report it to the right individuals who I may say do exist but its sad that the atmosphere there is that unless you know people, then you do not have a long term future there.
Pros
- Certain people will make you feel part of the team.
Cons
Management approach to bullying staff members

I wish management puts more effort to encourage members and give them every chance they need to achieve growth and development. It could have been better if they see the real potential of a member based on skills, knowledge, and quality of work and not just only the production.

CGI place themselves very much as an employee biased organisation, always using the 'Family' analogy and referring to the staff as members. To a greater extent this is true, and is probably one of the stand-out aspects of CGI that set them apart. Your working experience at CGI can depend very much on the line manager that you have, although this could be said of any organisation. I was extremely fortunate in my later time there in that I had an exceptional manager. Less so in the earlier years.

Working at CGI is not ideal for somebody looking for an easy ride. The work can be challenging, but as CGI work at the leading edge of some of their technologies this is to be expected. Again, the team experience can be variable, but I worked in a team that operated properly as a team of equals. The senior management team are working hard to ensure this is the norm, rather than the exception. Training is also a huge part of the CGI ethos, and there are plenty of opportunities to extend and upskill.

The most difficult part of the job can be the travel. CGI essentially operate two models, an Outsourcing model, where the (say) IT work is undertaken for a large organisation, and the roles are recruited locally, and a project based model where specialists travel to client sites to perform the project work, sometimes for extended periods. Mon - Fri, 250 miles from home for a 6 - 12 month project doesn't suit everyone, so be aware of what you are undertaking. For me, this wasn't an issue. At a higher level, members are expected to be mobile (i.e. travel, not relocate).

You are really left on your own! Management is not clear and a bit all over the place. Despite the numerous emails from central telling you what an asset you, at a local level your are just fodder - something to be billed out to the highest bidder. A lot of management talk, not so good at the walk.

Good Place to work. I would work for this company again if I find something in a different project. I worked on two contracts since 2011. Have always enjoyed working here.

It was a very demanding job as it was taking calls directly from customers. You learn a lot very quickly though and all the people on the team were great to work with.

Joined with a background in Service Desk and other experience which allowed me to progress after about 12 months on the CGI service desk.

The Service desk is very busy and your options for a breather between calls are very limited. The majority of teams have felt short staffed in the past due to turnover, although this has drain has slowed down since the wage scale was reviewed and increased to a realistic wage for the skillset and knowledge of the people working there.

Yes there are training opportunities, but these will largely be self learning opportunities in your free time across all areas and levels of employment. The good news is there's a free learning library at your fingertips which is very detailed and covers all technologies you can think of.

There will sometimes be courses required for you to become proficient in your role and you may have training at a venue on those occasions, but those are infrequent. A lot of your training is conducted on the job by learning from experienced members already in the role.

It's a friendly place to work and if you put in the learning and hard work you can progress into other roles, but, it won't happen immediately. Everything takes time.

Away from the service desk things are generally much less stressful even though your individual responsibilities may have increased.

Yes there can always seem to be favourites, but this is no different to anywhere else you could work. You won't have to stay in that environment forever though, this is a fast paced working environment and people progress and excel everywhere

Lots of projects to work on and multiple project participation. The management is excellent with focus on people as well as targets. Plenty of training at hand with mentor systems in place and training available via company website. 3 monthly update sessions to monitor performance and hit self given targets.

A typical day, sit at your desk and take at mininum of 500 calls per month.

You are sold the dream in the training process, then when you are taking calls you're a slave, it feels like your back at school.

Management, lack of skills and training so it is not their fault.

The hardest part of the job was they ask too much from you, they say they'll pay for training - good luck with that, you'll have to fill out like 100 forms to even be considered.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the people around you, they make the day go quicker as it drags due to how boring and repetitive everything is.

Frustrating work environment, on site with public sector client. Lack of leadership and engagement with client, issues escalated with no resulting outcome. Not necessarily a reflection on CGI but this specific client and project.

High turnover rate at this company. Management is lacking, however they get the job done. Training is given at the start and you are told you will be given the opportunity for more training, although with the workload it's almost impossible to find time for it.
