Been doing the job for a few months and just started my diploma, I've got no complaints working for the company, I have understanding and supportive managers and I work with a great bunch of people.
I don't agree with some aspects of how my pay is worked out but overall I think BMC are good employers and my hard work has been recognised and rewarded.
It can be a hard job and if you think your going to sit round baking cakes, doing cool activities all day and getting to bed at 11pm...your right for some of the time you are going to be doing all of that BUT some of the time your going to be up in the night or even all night supporting a child or young person who doesn't want to go to bed, or going to be out looking for them in all weathers at any time of the day or night because they've ran off and you could be verbally abused and sometimes you will have to intervene and use a physical hold on a child or young person to stop them from hurting themselves or you.
You have to be mentally strong, have a kind and caring nature, not be easily offended, not be judgemental, and be a team player.
I came from a retail background and have never worked in the social care field and I really enjoy my job, the shift pattern is great 2 on 4 off and yes some times I may only get 3 days or days off then back in but I get paid for my overtime and I'm a team player so I'm helping out my team and they do the same for me in return.
