Worked for almost 2 years as a care assistant. Travel time unpaid which took hourly rate well below minimum wage. Split shifts and any gaps between clients unpaid. Had 36 hour per week contract which was not honoured when new staff were taken on and hours dropped as low as 16 hours per week. Expected to use personal phone and constantly phoned on days off begging me to work. Training better than most private care companies. No work life balance. Only work for this company to gain experience and as a stepping stone to something better. or if you are desperate for work. They will make lots of promises at the interview such as funding you to achieve NVQ qualifications yet never make good. They constantly hold open days for recruitment ( ask yourself why ) and have a revolving door of care staff. Think very carefully before working for this company.
Amazing team and lovely clients but unrealistic traveling time between calls which can be very stressful. Have to work many hours in order to earn a decent wage as you only get paid for time at call which is often only 15 minuites. Good fuel allowance but does not cover wear and tear of your car, loneworking at night can be unnerving especially in rough areas and poorly lit places. Very nice co-workers and supportive team, company supply employers with a first aid kit and personal alarm and offers good variable training. Calls are not geographically matched which results in more traveling from one area to another.
