Learnt many skills and different part of the business. Found the Council very slow in ensuring things were done quickly. Too many politics and procedures to get anything done.

Dead end place to work
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Analyst25 November 2018
If you are young and smart and looking to climb the career ladder quickly, this is not the place for you. No matter how hard you work, no matter how much extra work you do or ingenuity you show in solving problems, you will NOT be rewarded here.

The council works on strict pay scales, and you will not get paid more than what scale you are on for your entire life! So if you start on 30k, expect to be on £30k in 60 years time. I would describe it as a dead end job with no scope for progression.

So if you are just happy to doddle along on an okay salary being bored by the monotony of day to day existence doing the same thing, day in and day out, apply here.

If you would like to keep doing different things, like to be challenged, and are keen to move up the career ladder/get a higher salary quicker, this is not the place for you.
Pros
2 days working from home
Cons
Dead end job, low salary, some boring people

Poor!
Housing Benefit (Former Employee) –  Wembley Park Station20 September 2018
The management in Brent Council is appalling I have never witnessed such poor management. They sabotage their staff to move forward within the council. The training is ridiculously poor and they do not know how to take care of their staff. Brent Council take pride in condoning such behaviour and it is very disappointing to know they support such behaviour.
The staff turn over in housing benefit is exceedingly high due the poor management and the lack of training and the pay rate is stupidly low for an adult.
They offer you a pay rate and go back on their weird because Brent on a whole is struggling financially and they will make cuts at any means necessary even if it means you work for pittance. It doesn't matter how well you perform in your job do not expect any recognition for it. In fact they will turn around and tell you that you can do better and you are not doing enough!

Customer Services Officer (Former Employee) –  Wembley13 June 2018
Not a bad place to work, pension and salary really good. Learnt a lot, starting in call center, learnt how the council operates, used a lot of different systems, worked in various departments throughout. Then moved to face to face. Dealt with a lot of nice, kind people but then also dealt with some very angry, hostile people. Not nice. Recently, a lot of changes, staff have been put under a lot of pressure.
Pros
Good Salary and Pension
Cons
Too much work and not enough staff

They treat customers like dogs.
Sales Assistant (Current Employee) –  Brent, Greater London18 December 2017
Brent council are very rude to customers and set up to make them fail.
The complaints procedures are rigged and they find a way to make customers cancel complaints.
Bunch of heartless animals.

Social Work Assistant (Current Employee) –  London, Greater London15 November 2017
I enjoy working here during the week and I am looking for extra public sector experience during the weekends.
I am currently working as a social work assistant in a front line social work children’s team. I hold a full case load, my role requires me to complete child and family assessments when cases are allocated me after a referral has been received., once the child and family assessment is complete I analyse the case and the recommendations will either be to step the case up to a child in need case, or to initiate an Initial child protection conference if the concerns identified are more serious. I also am co allocated on more complex cases which requires a s47 investigation to be completed. My role is to ensure the continuous safe guarding of children, and identifying any concerns/ positives regarding the children/ family through completing assessments and regular child in need visits

I learnt a lot from working af the Brent council, attending to court and sorting out work files. The most important thing I learnt was that it is important to keep people's personal information private.

Library Volunteer (Former Employee) –  London9 July 2017
Not enough happening and the work becomes monotonous. It is very solitary work and I could go for hours without actually speaking to anyone. The working there are friendly but there is still not enough happening in the day.
