fullfilling but stressful and overwhelming
Senior Health Care Assistant (Current Employee) – Accident and Emergency – 22 February 2020
your work load can become overwhelming at times depending on staffing levels and patient numbers, management are more concerned about targets than trying to retain and make staff happy, i have learned people skills, time management, how to perform wound care, minor injury and minor illness care to high dependency care, i have learnt how to perfrom ecg's take blood gain iv access and how to plaster.
workplace culture is amazing, never a dull day in regaurds to staff different characters and personalities form different cultures.
the hardest part of my job is work load, as the lowest grade you can find you are expected to do the majority of the heavy lifting so to say. i.e take pretty much every person who comes through the door who requires blood, perform there ecg's provide basic cares, as well as manage your own area, and then to add to it keep up with a consultant who is requesting things they would like when they are working in your area.
the most enjoyable part is when a patient cannot thank you enough for the time, effort and compassion you have given them or given someones relative.
