Working in a fun, friendly environment bringing job satisfaction for the work you do. A very relaxed atmosphere. Equipment a bit outdated but still efficient. Despite my team still active to this day my role as Customer Contact Team Leader was sadly made redundant only 2 months after running the London Marathon and raising thousands of pounds for them.
Extreme lack of recognition for your hard work and efforts.
Very busy place to work,You could never predict how the day might go until the end of working day. You may start with an absolute quiet day with very minimum number of clients and ended up with shop full of people and overwhelming amount of donations. I have leant a lot during my two and half years at Bethany, lots of different team playing skills, trade skills and patient. Management was absolutely not supportive,We were always short staff and all the Management seems to care was weekly Target, which I personally thought was very opposite to Christian ethos. Workplace Culture was not very pleasant and positive for Christian charity setting. The hardest part of the job is when we had both Manager of one of the store retired and the supervisor left soon after, we had no leader for over 4 months, despite of having no Managers we had two staff less who were never replaced and the retail staffs who were left to run the shop were never told the truth or nor given any support financial, spiritual or emotional and when they finally had a courage to talk about it with the Management the response was (They were never asked to take over any duties) The most enjoyable part was the customer and the service we provided to them.
normal working hrs
I learned to work with otthers in a team of staff and volunteers. A typical day at work involves dealing with customers, both face to face and over the phone. The management is great because they are very supportive of their colleauges. i work alongside good co-workers. We help each other out with preparing, pricing and displaying stock items for sale. The hardest part of the job is dealing with donations,we become overwhelmed, because we get alot of throughout the day. The most enjoyable part of this job is dealing with customers and interacting with them.
preparing and serving food and making coffees and serving customers working with the public can be fun good management always on hand to help great team who all got on well working with the public can be hard having banter with the staff and doing what i enjoy serving people
BCT is an organisation with a vision and a mission. it is easy to subscribe to their ethos as they aim to help the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society as well as befriend the lonely and isolated. I have had a fantastic two years here and am only leaving as external funding for my project wasn't renewed
Working in an external funded service
While I am currently looking for work, working at Bethany Christian trust as a receptionist has given me some valuable new skills in dealing with a variety of people, my co-workers for the most part are friendly and easy going. a typical day I answer the phone and transfer to other departments, Transfer Mail to other departments and let people into the building.
Bus Fare Compensation
miscommunication between departments at times
