Branch Manager (Current Employee) –  Kent12 April 2019
They will run you into the ground and make you work ridiculous hours for no extra payment or time and if you question this with anyone higher up you will be investigated to make you shut up.

Horrible place to work.
Part-time Sales Consultant (Former Employee) –  Barnstaple, Devon2 April 2019
Terrible place to work, staff very 'clicky', and manager and other staff would steal your sales on your day off. I received £5.05 per hour, with no commission paid, not even the minimum wage as quoted, after 4months they still had not corrected it, so walked out when my hours had been changed for a third time without being notified. The manager even pulled the jacket off my back when I left.
Pros
You could lay and try out all the beds
Cons
All staff including manager would steal your sales.

Sales is never a good job
Sales Consultant (Former Employee) –  Bedfordshire18 February 2019
No Motivation just always asking you to hit your targets. I wouldn't say they are a great company but It wasn't a lively environment to work in. Its always fights with your other colleagues who just want to hit their own targets

Run away!
Head office (Former Employee) –  Huncoat, Lancashire23 January 2019
If you want to go to a glum office full of disgruntled workers and lots of lazy managers, & if you want to do the bare minimum and go home then apply now.

There are practically no benefits, and as for the 'culture' of the place there isn't one. The majority of my colleagues were lovely as they are in the same situation as you, but most of the managers are lazy and cliquey who have managed to wangle there way to their position and they have no intention of moving or helping you progress. You're just a number, trapped on a conveyor belt. Its grim.

There's no communication or openness about the company, your told what you need to be told and thats on email. You dont feel a part of the company. If you want to clock watch and keep your head down Bensons is right for you.

There's no encouragement for social activities, there's not really any company activities either. For a big company they still operate so small and with a disregard for staff. They seem so obsessed with greed and keeping every penny to themselves, there is a massive pay gap between managers and everyone else. And considering the salaries are so low you would expect some kind of staff benefits even if its just free fruit or planned team sport activities like football matches.

Moving on was the best thing i did and it really opened my eyes further to what a disappointment the company has turned into over the 9 years i was there. I think its too late for them to change but they really need to start looking after people better, you dont need to throw money at it just compassion.

Average place to work
7.5 tonne driver (Former Employee) –  Leicester, Leicestershire4 January 2019
I Worked ayt Bensons/ Harvey's for 3 months which had its ups and downs ...

First of all the Christmas period was a royal muck up and Muck about. You would come in at 8_9 o'clock in the morning some days and they would make you sit in the break room because the wagon isn't loaded until lunch time. Then it gets better, call you in the office and say your loaded and they have given you 15_20 drops in Birmingham at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and your not delivering parcels your delivering beds and mattress and furniture ... Which need assembling.
(Your broken before you've left the depot)

On your delivery sheet you will get AM and PM deliverys, they will happily send you out at 12 pm with at least 3_5 AM deliveres. Its embarrassing for you and the company when you turn up at their house at 3 pm ...

Management are ok, no issues. Half of them seemed broken from working there thou.

positives, on the few occasions you may get given 8_10 jobs in a local area and you can be done in 6_7 hours if you and the driver's mate work hard. Home early.

Canteen and free parking.
Meeting new people every Day on the job.
And the drivers and driver's mates were a great bunch.
Pay is good.

Be careful with your back in this job, coffee tables can weigh up to 100kg ! Mattresses up to 90kg ! Will keep you fit indeed !
Pros
Canteen, free parking.
Cons
Long hours, organisation

My time spent working here has been close with my colleagues. They have been very accommodating and helpful. Without my line manager I would have sunk many times as he is always understanding and ready to support.

It was enjoyable to work in benson's in the past but than new people come in want to change thing and they only care about their pockets
Sales Consultant (Former Employee) –  Tottenham Court Road16 November 2018
The lowest basic pay in from all the retailers
Can be long hours, no pay rise.
You work on commission, and on line can be cheaper
So you need the sale or you loose the customer
So if you give discount you loose 2 percent commission

Worst experience of my life, and ive worked for alot of companys
Sales Advisor - Full Time (Current Employee) –  Northern Ireland29 October 2018
My experiances.
*8-10 hour days alone with no cover for lunches or brakes
*14 days in a row without cover
*Phone calls consitsntly on your days off
*The most depressing company to work for.
*Pressure sales
*Bonus incentives taken away and divid amonst other stores
*£450 of your commission goes to the company earining gate before you actually make anything bonus also get deducted in this
*Expected to carry full beds alone without any equipment
*Uniform, wearing a suit to sell a bed is absolutely ridiculous. Grow up.
*sales being stolen
*Backwards computer systems
*Made to take holidays in week blocks and book at start of the financial year(oct)
* you only get a full weekend off if you book two weeks in a row as there week starts on Sunday-Saturday
*Spent last christmas with no heating for months becuase it was actually blowing out toxic fumes i was later told.
*on tv for scamming
Half the staff left in a division and had a majour shortage of staff and management due to conditions.

Advice for worling here, document everything.
use emails and print off requests and questions etc etc cover your back be ause they will twist things against you unless you have hard proof.
Pros
Any day off you might get

Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Customer srvice dept3 September 2018
Worst job I've ever had . Managers rude and incompotential no regards for customers . Unless company deserve to go bust .

Made to feel like a robot abuse from managers no support or proper training always getting abuse from customers shouting on phone . The sooner this company goes bust the better.

Never buy anything from this company they will take your money and couldn't care less of any problems .

Friendly colleagues but poor managers.
Sales Consultant/Acting Assistant Manager (Former Employee) –  North Finchley10 August 2018
Given false assurances to drive me to go out of my way to help out the area manager/company but promises were never met despite how put out you are by false promises. People don't see things through and the company changes the rules and expectations but doesn't take staff opinion of changes into consideration.

Staff not valued
Team leader (Former Employee) –  Bedfordshire31 July 2018
Management consider staff to be easily replaced and therefore do not make the effort to provide a good working environment. Stress levels are high and the wage is low for the amount of work you do.

Relaxed store environment but constant store closures means you never have complete job security
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Scotland24 May 2018
My store is relaxed but the company as a whole can be very challenging. No real support is provided when trying to resolve a customers issue. A severe lack of communication and constant changing of policies and procedures means we are always playing catch-up. Senior management is permanently on an ever changing merry-go-round between Bensons for Beds and Harvey's. No support when sales have been poor in individual stores but rather a blanket statement of "YOU are not getting the job done". The company I feel have most definitely being going in the wrong direction in the last year with regards to customer service and team moral. OTE are laughable along with the basic salaries.
Pros
The 9-5 shifts
Cons
The amount of "Red weeks" were no-one can take holidays, between 11-17 weeks a year.

Bensons review
Store Manager (Current Employee) –  Great Yarmouth21 May 2018
Benson is a fun and progressive retailer, with a strong KPI focus, recently opportunity's have arisen for Management progression.
However management positions for external candidates require you to hit the ground running, as I feel in store management training leaves a lot to be desired.
Pros
saff discount, some weekends off!

Heavy work but on the whole not a bad company to work for.
Class 2 Driver (Former Employee) –  South Yorkshire26 April 2018
Delivering beds and furniture to stores and private addresses throughout the north of England. The salary was a plus and if you could get finished reasonably that was always advantageous however there were some long days and due to being salaried no overtime was paid.
