there are better places to work!
Essential Banker (Former Employee) –  Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire11 April 2018
Absolute joke. Management is so poor, they give you no support. Booking holidays is ridiculous as have to book 2 years in advance so don't expect to get any in the first 2 years of working there. Staff are very cliquey and power driven. Staff who are higher up will treat you like dirt. No help when it comes to challenging customers. You don't get paid enough for what you have to deal with. You get pushed to 'sell' products to customers and told off like a child if you don't deliver.

benefits were ok

Dont be fooled by job description - reality is different
Essential banker (Former Employee) –  Hertfordshire14 March 2018
There is too much pressure on product sales for customers. Salary is not adequate to what management is asking for. Essential banker role is based on sales and management is making sure you are reaching goals and following them corretly.

If you are working in a small branch some holidays are refused - lack of staff.

Long hours. Sometimes no support over serving customers.

Online training is not enought of what management is expecting from you

Uniform is free but no quality at all
Pros
Good experience for back office
Cons
Long hours, too many expectations and responsibilities

Barclays Contact Centre
Fraud Advisor (Current Employee) –  Sunderland8 March 2018
Barclays as a company have some excellent benefits for employee's including their pension scheme.

A typical day would include taking phone calls which would depend on your role. ie customer service, mortgage's, Fraud or Digital services.

The training you receive is more than sufficient, you will walk into your role with a very good understanding of what you will be doing on a regular basis. you will also undertake further training to learn a small amout of what the other business areas do on a daily basis.

The Management could be greatly improved upon and there seems to be different rules on how to deal with your day to day role depending on what manager or leader you speak to, the business could greatly benefit with one set way of doing things.

The hardest part of the job is the shift pattern's you will work which for most colleagues is any 5 days in 7 which means you are not guaranteed to get 2 days off together at any given time.

The best part of the job will be a persnoal opinion for me it would be the colleague's you work with i can honestly say i have made some life long friends whilst at the company.
Pros
Colleague's, Paid Breaks. Good salary and Benefits
Cons
Shift Pattern, Management

Horrible Company
Senior Business Analyst (Current Employee) –  Canary Wharf, Greater London1 March 2018
Certain departments are horrible to work for. Management want to implement a command and control regime and will stop at nothing to ensure that is the way things are done. No career advancement, no bonuses, hardly and benefits. The only thing keeping one sane is the peers who share a good sense of humour about the whole thing.

Senior Manager (Current Employee) –  Canary Wharf, Greater London28 February 2018
High job security, good work-life balance, optional work from home and other benefits related to flexible work that fit your lifestyle. However often glass ceiling and constant restructuring do not always allow for career planning, personal development, etc.

Very demanding, not so rewarding
Personal Banker (Former Employee) –  Woking, Surrey5 February 2018
As a Personal Banker I was required to know basically all the Company modus operandi, to reach my individual target, to refer clients to other parts of the Business (mortgage, investments, premier, etc), and to train newer colleagues.
Lately the company would keep on adding different target on a weekly basis, still keeping old ones and raising their levels.
In the end it felt more like a salesman position than a Customer Service one.

Gives you a nice insight of the finance world

Barclays has the highest turnover of staff out of all the banks if you note on job searches.

long hours unpaid, slow systems

Bank Cashier (Current Employee) –  United Kingdom16 January 2018
It is a good place to work and does look good on your CV however it is very hard to progress within a bank these days, many people go in to the bank expecting it to be a quick stepping stone to moving up the ladder but this isn't always the case.
Pros
Lots of perks for working at Barclays, private health care, bank holidays, good holiday entitlement etc
Cons
Not easy to progress anymore

Debit card service advisor (Former Employee) –  Coventry16 January 2018
Telephony based role, providing excellent customer service to Barclays customers calling regarding Debit Card issues and queries.

I found it very satisfying investigating and solving customers issues or complaints at first point resolution where possible.

The work is driven by high standards to reach goals and reduce service level and to give the customer the best level of care.

I enjoyed working with the staff and colleagues. They made going to work fun.
