ASDA is a brilliant company to work for, retail requires hard work and determination, the home/work balance isn't always achievable in the management team, but a good job is highly rewarded. ASDA's treats everyone fairly and equally, and is a fun and forever changing environment. The pay for management could be better.
Pros
Good breaks, treated fairly, always developing staff
Cons
Pay, weekend working

Section leader home shopping, picking orders for delivery
Section leader (Current Employee) –  Southampton, Hampshire18 March 2017
Asda is a large super market chain owned by American company Walmart. Unfortunately at the moment the management team are unmotivated and in chaos they are going through a company restructure as things are not improving, I have been working at my current store for 12 years and keep being praised for my work ethic but being passed over for promotion. I would like to progress to a store manager as I feel I have the skill and the passion to do well.
Pros
10% discount and bonuses job security
Cons
Not enough staff, some staff lazy and management will an I don't care attitude

Good place to work as a colleague
Manger, colleague, section leader (Former Employee) –  Aberdeen stores17 March 2017
The compain is good to work for lots of overtime availability. Manger friendly and job is very secure as a colleague. It has a good structure for advanced and has several programs that this can be done. The only down side is you have to prove you can do the job before you actual get the promotion and the hours can be long as a manger if your looking for advancement.
Pros
10% discount on shopping
Cons
Long hours if you are a manger and you need to work at the weekend

Quick to progress with hard work, hours are unsociable.
Section Leader (Current Employee) –  Quedgeley22 September 2016
Quick to progress with hard work, hours are unsociable. The pay is pretty bad for Section Leaders, having to run the store as duty manager on some shifts and only getting paid an extra £1 per hour than a colleague would get. A bonus is the people, everyone is easy to get along with and always welcome new colleagues.

Avoid if possible, definitely a last resort.
Section Leader (Former Employee) –  London13 August 2016
Your basic role is to be a 'dogs body'. Your expected to work all the hours under the sun, without question. As soon as you challenge this commitment and dedication are questioned. I was required to manage the warehouse with a team of 3 yes 3. For 18hours a day 7 days a week, whilst receiving nearly £1million pounds of stock a week. Your very rarely praised for a job well done and never really thanked for going the extra mile. The company focus rightly is the customer, but to the degree the colleagues and section leaders suffer is shambolic. Managers cant manage tea parties and are never around when you need them, the busiest you see them is when a director turns up and your dept is expected to be perfect.
Pros
friendly colleagues, 10% discount
Cons
poor management, no support network, long hours expectations, lack of understanding to personal needs. pretty much everything not above

Great colleagues stressful work
Section Leader (Former Employee) –  Reading1 August 2016
Retail is stressful more stressful then most other jobs out there but what made it easier was working alongside amazing people. the jobs are relatively easy in respect of fill shelf, customers buy, refill shelf but think Asda cutting hours more and more and stripping managment making a hard job harder.

I learnt alot from Asda and believe it is a great starter job as teaches you good work ethic just not a career.
Pros
Colleagues

Long hours, Pay
