The Cardio-Respiratory Department at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist- Echocardiographer to join our busy, expanding multi-disciplinary team.

At the present time Wirral University Teaching Hospital has 8 Cardiologists and 7 Respiratory Physicians and is developing services in a variety of areas of the department.

The post would suit ETP/STP (with Echo as their chosen interest) students or individuals who are working towards their BSE accreditation and would be employed as an Annex 21. Once successful in achieving your BSE accreditation there will be a preceptorship to ensure you have the experience and skills that are necessary to independently work across all non-invasive services including line management duties.

A Chief Clinical Physiologist will independently perform a combination of the following specialist procedures:

  • Highly specialist diagnostic cardia ultrasound, including specialist echocardiography, stress echo and assisting Transoesophageal Echocardiography.
  • Perform a range of Echocardiography procedures, using knowledge and
  • Skills to interpret complex results and produce a diagnostic report.
  • Communicate complex information with patients, relatives or carers, explaining the procedures taking into account any learning or physical disabilities, in order to obtain agreement and cooperation to any tests or procedures, ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Ensure availability, cleanliness and maintenance of equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained ordering stock as appropriate, via stock control or purchase requisition

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and qualified Echocardiographer to join our team.

You will have BSc in clinical physiology or equivalent, RCCP registration, ILS/ALS and be British Society of Echocardiography accredited and competent to issue independent echo reports, providing teaching for medical and physiologist staff.

We are a forward thinking department, motivated towards adapting and developing our services and are currently working towards departmental BSE accreditation.

Chief Cardiac Physiologist is required to work without supervision as a competent practitioner performing a range of specialised investigations.

Duties may include; Echocardiography, Complex Echocardiography, Stress Echocardiography and Transoesophageal Echocardiography.

The post holder will support the Cardiology Service Lead, assisting with the administration of the service and deputising in the service leader’s absence.

Teaching and supervision of junior staff will be required at this level.
