This role could also be based out of our Exeter office.

This is a key role which will support the Branch Manager establish the ABC brand in the broker market and support ABC’s business development strategy. The jobholder will be instrumental in building strong relationships with brokers and/or customers through the delivery of a market leading service. The jobholder will undertake a range of underwriting duties in relation to the building and profitability of the Commercial account.

About You You must have:
  • good general education including ACII or equivalent experience
  • extensive experience of commercial underwriting
  • experience of broker development
  • demonstrated sound decision making
  • good computer literacy

  • excellent communication and relationship building skills demonstrating an ability to deal with customers and colleagues at all levels

The Details You will need to:
  • handle all cases within personal underwriting authority and referrals from level 1 underwriters
  • including acceptance and rating of commercial risks, servicing quotes, new business, renewals and mid term adjustments
  • ensure all business is handled within underwriting strategy, service standards, procedures and compliance requirements
  • achieve agreed sales and renewal retention targets for commercial insurance products in line with business and personal performance plans
  • provide an efficient, high quality service that meets agreed service levels to insurance brokers and/or customers and pro-actively seek and act upon opportunities to sell products within underwriting guidelines
  • ensuring that the production of policy documentation is error free and contract certain
  • support the development of good broker relationships
  • when required, assist with the coaching and development of branch team members
  • support all commercial insurance teams in achieving agreed targets through the handling of overflow activity during peak periods according to business need
  • be aware of and comply on an ongoing basis with any legal, regulatory and industry body codes of practice
  • play a pro-active part in identifying self development needs in order to achieve personal and business goals and address these through personal performance plans
  • support and deputise for branch manager
  • conduct underwriting and operational audits (locally and at other branches)
