To contribute to the success and smooth running of the retail shops.
To ensure the efficient and professional running of the Stock Rooms in accordance with the systems and procedures laid down by BMCo.
To provide the highest standard of service to the customer – the shops.
The promotion of the good name of the company and the British Museum.
To present an informative and helpful image to the shops, 6B and Head Office
To check off all deliveries when they arrive in the Stock Rooms in an efficient and timely manner, ensuring the deliveries tally with the paperwork and passing all paperwork with any shortages, overages or damaged items clearly highlighted, to the appropriate admin dept.
To unpack all deliveries putting stock into the correct locations ensuring all stock is safely stored and easily accessible in line with H&S guidelines. Maintain an accurate knowledge of stock and locations.
To ensure stock is rotated on a regular basis, ensuring all stocks remain clean and saleable.
To supply stock to the shops on a daily basis, advising the manager of any items which are not available.
To liaise with the shop managers regarding their deliveries.
To liaise with 6B staff and (other delivery companies) as necessary; advising them of any access issues or other communication that may affect them.
To ensure that all ‘mail order’ purchases from the shops are forwarded to 6B in a timely fashion for onward dispatch.
To pack up and have ready for collection by 6B all damaged and excess stock, transfers and any internal mail.
To pack up and have ready for collection all stock to be returned to suppliers or collected by suppliers, ensuring all paperwork is actioned accordingly.
To complete any paperwork as instructed, in an accurate, efficient and timely manner, ensuring all filing is kept up-to-date and in good order.
To ensure the carrier bags and other shop floor consumables are kept stocked up with all necessary items by placing regular orders with 6B and other suppliers. Keep the area tidy and readily accessible by all and supply the shops as required.
To collect mail daily from the Post room and distribute as necessary both to the Retail Office and 38 (Head Office). Ensure any internal mail going from the Retail Office to 6B is given to the van driver on a daily basis.
To keep the Stock Rooms in an organised and presentable condition. All areas should be cleaned on a regular basis and all bins emptied as required.
To ensure all aisles and through routes are kept clear and free of stock at all times - particular attention must be paid to all fire escape routes. Report any build up of rubbish or blockages (in any part of the building) to a member of management immediately.
To ensure all computers and lights are switched off at the end of the working day and that the Stock Rooms are ready for the following day’s business activity.
To follow all security procedures to ensure a high level of security is maintained at all times; all Stock Room doors are kept closed and no unauthorised persons allowed into the Stock Rooms unaccompanied.
To assist with Stocktakes; both the prepping and the counting.
To ensure that the trolleys are operating efficiently and that any defects or problems that may affect the day-to-day running of the Stock Rooms are advised to the line manager.
To actively be involved in improving storage and stock control systems and suggesting improvements in the overall layout and organisation of the Stock Rooms as they become apparent.
To be fully conversant with all procedures and policies of the British Museum Shops.
Familiarisation with the Museum as a whole.
To provide cover and/or assistance for the Bookshop Stock Room assistant during breaks, annual leave, other absences or special circumstances as required, ensuring sufficient handover (for planned cover).
To carry out any reasonable task as directed by the Retail Management Team.
Applicants should have:
• Manual handling skills and the ability to lift and move stock in line with health and Safety procedures.
• An organized and efficient method of working.
• Good Administrative skills and the ability to use stock systems with accuracy.
• A strong customer service ethos.
• The ability to meet targets and deadlines.
• A confident manner when dealing with a wide range of people and the ability to work as part of a team and work alone.
