Expected start date: 1 September 2014 or as soon thereafter as possible.
The Sensor Technology Research Centre is of strategic importance to the University and continues to receive significant investment in facilities and people, including the recent appointment of four new staff. The success of the Centre continues to grow and we now wish to appoint two additional lecturers; one in Sensor Technology, and one in Advanced Networks and Communications.
One of the Centre’s major activities has been on its award winning electric potential sensor technology; a development of which is marketed as the Plessey EPIC sensor. To complement the growing electric potential sensors work we are increasing the breadth of the Centre’s activities with recent appointments in the areas of wearable sensors, pervasive computing, and semiconductor radiation sensors. Applications are sought from those with complementary research skills in related areas, which may include experience of printed or flexible technologies as applied to sensor systems.
Applicants for this position will have a strong research record in some aspect of sensor technology, with applications experience in a related area such as lifestyle, health, sports, or security being an added advantage as the Centre has long established research links, academic and industrial, with groups working in these areas.
The successful applicant may have a physics or engineering background and will be expected to teach primarily in the Department of Engineering and Design, delivering modules in areas such as analogue/digital electronics and embedded systems at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Applications should be accompanied by a full CV and statements of future research plans, and where applicants could contribute to teaching across the School.
Informal enquiries may be addressed either to Professor R Prance, Head of the Sensor Technology Research Centre, R.J.Prance@sussex.ac.uk ; or Professor D J Mynors, Head of School, D.J.Mynors@sussex.ac.uk .
The selection process requires candidates to be available on both: 18 and 19 August 2014.
