Once a project has been approved for planning (PLCP CP1), is responsible for the Operations aspects of the New Product Introduction (NPI) of a Product through all phases of product manufacturing required to launch a product into production. Responsible for the tranfer of the product into Production (General Availability (GA) phase), with new or updated supporting business processes and documentation.
Presentation of the NPI project plan to the NPI / New Product Operations (NPO), Project Management for buy in/Approval and subsequently for status reporting.
Responsibility for delivering NPI products and production processes to agreed budget, time-scales and required level of quality, including the management of risk to ensure these objectives are made.
Working with the Project Manager to ensure all aspects of the product and process development are covered to ensure a successful product launch, at whatever production sites deemed necessary.
Instill awareness to the Program team of the implications to Operations of all selection decisions relating to Design, Materials and Production methods. Represent Operations in these decision making processes and feed back decisions and implications to NPI and Operations Management.
Drive continuous cost reduction and process efficiency activities related to improving New Product Introduction (NPI) and Production Operations.
Drive Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) activities to achieve the optimum fit for the product in the Marketplace and the Production process.
Development, monitoring and distribution of NPI project specific plans, capturing and reporting progress against Project Plans utilizing project-based planning tools. Ensuring the buy in from all stakeholders of the plan.
Develop, manage, and report progress against departmental objectives as appropriate, with regular reporting of project progress "actual" against forecast and original plan for all NPI business metrics, including schedule; milestones; process cost; NPI project cost and estimate to completion etc.
Work in partnership with other functions in the wider team to secure necessary cross-functional input to projects and to secure necessary technology, design and test inputs, ensuring that all milestones on the NPI plan are achieved.
Work with Operations and New Products Operations to ensure that volume production (LA and GA) starts smoothly and on schedule to support Customer demand.
Establish and monitor groups NPI targets and schedules to ensure timely completion within budget and to the required quality, continually questioning, challenging and checking of progress on tasks being performed by the team, by other teams and by third parties.
To liaise with the Project Manager, Engineering, Production and Management to determine requirements for new products in line with overall project schedule.
Own the structure of the Bill of materials (BOM) to ensure the most efficient solution to Operations and the marketplace. Including involvement of the EC process that affects the manufacture/test function of the product so as to ensure that it fits within the overall NPI plan.
Ensure the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) activities are carried out to achieve the optimum fit for the product in the Marketplace and the Production process.
To liaise with Product Engineering to ensure that during the NPI build phase, design issues are captured and fed back to the development group in a structured fashion.
Documentation required includes but not restricted to: NPI project plan; production process capital and expense plan; contribution to the risk log; DFMA requirements and status; production process specifications, equipment and documentation and transfer plan.
Ensure correct test and inspection standards are implemented. Ensure quality and production test yield targets are met.
To have established and documented the sequence of operations to assemble, test and configure parts or products.
To apply Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to prove the robustness of manufacturing processes.
To work with Process Engineering to ensure implementation of a Production process that delivers maximum efficiency.
To work with the NPI Materials Planner who will ensure that the supply chain is in place for both development / prototype builds and for Limited Availability (LA) / General Availability (GA) production.
To work with the NPI lab team to ensure timely build and test of product to support the project schedule and to collect feedback of build and test issues for the product and process development groups.
To work with the Failure Analysis teams to put in place failure analysis knowledge in the silver and gold phases.
To deliver a handover pack to Operations on achieving GA that includes all documentation and records required by the NPI process.
To manage the transfer of production to the nominated production facility (e.g. Havant, Sacramento and Seremban), utilising a product transfer project plan.
To work within the procedures for the release of documents via the Process Change Notice (PCN) process.
To work within the quality systems in place supporting the role of the quality team in all aspects of work.
