The UK manufacturing plant in Stallingborough, employs 370 people and is the largest Chloride process plant in Europe.
As a top tier COMAH site we place major emphasis on process, behavioural safety and environmental management.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Process Safety Engineer to support the development, maintenance and modification of key Process Safety Management activities within the Process Safety Department, in order to comply with the regulations and continuously improve the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive.
The successful candidate will -
Undertake all aspects of Process Safety Management (PSM) work for the
site, including aspects of the COMAH safety report
Lead/facilitate/participate in multi-disciplinary teams to implement best
business case solutions to process safety
Deliver assigned actions arising from COMAH report assessments, audits
incident reviews or other sources
Contribute to the 5 yearly COMAH Safety report rewrite, and assist with
ongoing management of the report
Prepare required materials for and effectively represent the company
during contact with the regulators
Take technical responsibility for keeping up to date with developments and
standards in PSM methodology both within the Company and the UK
Advise/liaise with the corporate organisation as required on process safety
related matters
Provide day to day technical support for designated areas of the plant
Progress the completion of Hazard Study actions, ensuring all actions are
Closed out within the agreed time frame
Monitor and progress the completion of PSM audit actions, ensuring all
actions are closed out within the agreed time frame
Implement the inclusion of Human Factors in all Process Safety related
activities and assist with Human factors task/human error analyses
Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of Process Safety
Management key performance indicators as per HSG254
Assist with the development and maintenance of procedures for Safety
Critical Variables and Safety Critical Equipment
Assist with audits of the Process Safety Management systems by the
Company, the HSE and external bodies, ensuring that all resulting actions
are fully defined and implemented
The successful candidate will have
A Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical or Process Engineering or equivalent experience within a relevant industry sector
Process Safety experience in a Top Tier COMAH chemical processing environment
An appreciation of the importance of process safety management systems/COMAH processes
A systematic and well-organised approach to problem solving
The ability to work alone for extended periods
Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills that meet the needs at all levels of the organisation.
A logical and analytical approach within the role
Experience of various software packages e.g. MS Office
Held a process safety related role at a top tier COMAH chemical processing site
Experience as a HAZOP team leader
Participated in high level Safety Studies (i.e. HAZOP / PHR / LOPA assessment)
Semi-quantitative risk assessment experience
Familiarity with quantitative risk assessment methodology
Knowledge of relevant Health, Safety & Environmental legislation - especially COMAH
Familiarity with IEC61508 in particular SIL assessment studies
Familiarity with DSEAR
Familiarity with electronic Management of Change systems
A knowledge of and be conversant with the identification and incorporation of Human Factors elements into all aspects of process safety
Technical auditing and gap analysis skills and experience
Familiarity with Human Factors HSE guidelines and principles
Desirable attributes are:
Masters degree in Process Safety or Loss Prevention.
Chartered professional status or working towards Chartership
Based in Stallingborough, the role is commutable from Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Hull, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield
