Account Manager


This is a great opportunity to join one of the leading Medical Communications Agencies that is currently experiencing business growth and as a result is looking for an experienced Account Manager to join their team in the Manchester office.

Key Purpose:
To manage assigned accounts and client relationships to deliver agreed sales, revenues and margins

To manage designated accounts to meet the companies sales and contribution expectations:

Deliver all confirmed projects within the account to agreed specifications and budgets

Assist in developing proposals that meet identified client needs and offer growth of the companies Communications business; consult colleagues on opportunities for business within other copany groups

Support the financial aspects of the account i.e. developing budgets, developing terms and conditions, contracts, contribution and sales forecasts, as requested by AD/SAM

Provide accurate WIP, financial and commercial updates to the Commercial Development Director (CDD) and finance department to required timetable

Oversee project management of all live projects; liaise with Events Manager involved on meetings management for account

Assist AD/Senior Sponsor (SS) in active expansion of business within the account by identifying needs and opportunities, proactively opening discussions with client, and presenting new sales opportunities

Complete timesheets and other company internal procedures to agreed standard, to ensure compliance with companies SOPs and best practices.

To build and sustain long-term influential business relationships:

Develop and maintain awareness and understanding of the client’s market, product profile, competitors and trends

Demonstrate knowledge of market and therapeutic area when interacting with client and internal company teams

Apply knowledge of strategic pharmaceutical marketing and medical communications when interacting with client and internal company teams

Represent the company at client meetings ; deliver follow up company team actions

Keep clients informed of progress with their business and manage issues in a proactive manner

To develop and implement customer-focussed account plans:
Work with the Account Director/ Senior Sponsor(SS) and other team members to develop a 2 –3 year account plan for designated account(s) to agreed scope

Work with members of other company groups to maximise outcomes for client and company business opportunities

Work with Account Director/SS and account team to implement the plan

To participate in creating an effective account team that meets client and company business needs:

Work with ETL and AD to contribute to a vision and common goals for the team that are shared and understood by all team members

Work closely with the other members of the team to set up processes and systems to best manage the account business and take early corrective action, if necessary

Ensure project plans, status updates, meeting reports, etc. are provided to the client in the preferred format and frequency

To keep up to date on all of the Group companies, products and services; apply knowledge to expand client service and maximise company business potential:

Attend orientation and familiarisation sessions on other company products and services

Attend Lunch & Learn, joint NBD and account team reviews and similar sessions

Contribute to new business development activities by active participation in brainstorm or proposal planning sessions; assist in new business pitches, as required

Maintain close working relationship with new business staff involved in same client company; pass on leads and provide introductions

Network within client organisation as opportunity permits

Any other duties as requested by the Account Director or CDD

Personnel Managed:

Minium Qualifications:
BSc or Higher Degree - a life science degree is preferred

Previous Work Experience:
A proven track record within the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare, communications agency or medical publishing

Requires knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry together with some therapeutic area knowledge and an understanding of the drug development process

Experience in sales or marketing practice

Aptitude for leadership skills

Ability to coach and mentor

Aptitude to negotiate in a defined range of situations

Ability to build influential relationships

Demonstrable presentation skills

European language skills desirable
