If you’re a skilled Building Services Engineer, you could help manage a unique £1.5bn property portfolio.
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has one of the largest property portfolios in the UK, currently valued at over £1.5bn. Comprising over 10million gross square feet (970,000 gross square metres), it covers a vast range of real estate from commercial office accommodation through to warehousing; custody facilities through to forensic laboratories; vehicle storage facilities through to firearms ranges; and helicopter bases through to stabling facilities. As a Senior Building Services Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the design, development and maintenance of this estate, which is currently undergoing rationalisation.
It’s a varied and challenging role where you will have the chance to lead various specialisms using your extensive engineering and facilities experience. You will work on construction projects, acting as Project Lead; support mechanical and electrical engineering resilience, maintenance and forward works planning; assist in design evaluation of services to new developments and refurbishments; and see that everything complies with legislation. You will also have the opportunity to support our Corporate Real Estate programme, which means improving building performance and supporting maintenance and resilience across the estate.
With solid experience backed up with relevant Engineering, Property or Facilities Management qualifications, you will be a confident, skilled professional. You have in-depth knowledge of critical engineering systems and building services design that covers planned and statutory maintenance regimes; current design standards; legislative compliance; energy management systems; BMS; and best practice. This means you can deliver fast-track projects, undertake building performance assessments and establish strategies to mitigate potential risks. You are also capable of directing large, multi-functional supply chain contracts and driving cost-efficiency using an analytical, forward-thinking approach.
A member of MIMechE, MIET or CIBSE or with equivalent experience, you will have the communication skills to manage a large number of stakeholders and influence clients. If you’re also creative, enthusiastic and an innovative thinker, this could be the ideal place for your skills.
