Tameside MBC is the administering authority of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund. It is the largest fund in England and Wales with assets of £11bn and it is amongst the best funded and best performing of Local Government Pension Scheme funds. It also has an excellent reputation in terms of its innovative approaches to both investment and administration and providing value for money.
The role
This is a new and unique role reporting to the Executive Director of Pensions and it will form part of the Fund’s Management Team.
You will lead on the Fund’s local investment activities, for which up to £500m is allocated. The aim is to build a diversified portfolio of assets with the help of external managers and advisers and a small in-house team that will deliver commercial returns and assist in supporting the area.
You will oversee and co-ordinate the Fund’s property exposure, that has a strategic allocation of £1bn. This will include the in-house property investments and developing our portfolio of indirect property investments in the UK and overseas.
You will oversee the Fund’s accounting and internal control functions.
You will lead on ad-hoc projects.
You will contribute to the overall management of the Fund.
About you
You will be able to quickly develop an understanding of complex matters.
You will have a successful investment track record and demonstrate the ability to apply your skill and experience to evaluating a wide range of diverse investment opportunities.
You will have evidence of successfully achieving objectives and the ability and drive to carry out this challenging role.
You will build and lead a small team as the local investment portfolio develops. As well as the internal teams, you will work with external managers, advisers, co-investors/partners and local authorities. Therefore, you will posses excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.
You will have a relevant professional, investment, accountancy or pension qualification, and you will have the desire to make a major contribution to the ongoing success of our Fund.
