Drive innovation in animal welfare & husbandry techniques
Lead and develop a team of 10 animal welfare specialists
Actively contribute to, and develop, our expertise and research programme in the field of animal behaviour
The Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition is the global hub of pet care and nutritional expertise for
Mars
. Its remit is to deliver ‘high-quality, innovative science conducted in a caring way’. As our Animal Welfare and Behaviour Manager you will play a critical role in developing and driving our animal behaviour and welfare strategy, to ensure our pet population of 500 cats and dogs is effectively managed and fully cared for. You will manage continuous development of our animal population, including procurement, breeding and homing, to ensure it meets the needs of our continually evolving research programme. You will develop innovative husbandry and training methodologies and protocols to enhance lives of our pets and as a result, the quality of
our research
. In addition, you will build and maintain global networks and a establish a collaborative research programme to ensure we remain at the forefront of pet behavioural science
With a Ph.D. in Animal Behaviour, which is underpinned by a demonstrable passion for their welfare, you must also have:
a proven track record of success in a research environment
a clear capability for, and history of, building teams who perform at the pinnacle of this highly specialised arena
career evidence of strong line management and delivering through others.
We‘d like to see some evidence of effective stakeholder management and, preferably, a publication record which would add weight and credibility to your application.
