This is an opportunity for a strong leader to take on a brand new role with brand new challenges that will make a huge impact on the communities of Sandwell.
Area Director Homes and Communities
£85,490 – £101,687
Why choose Sandwell?
We’re very pleased to say that we have successfully completed our senior management restructure, well ahead of many other authorities. It was important to us to get this underway as soon as possible in order to be able to continue to deliver key services to the public.
The restructure helped us to identify roles that were going to be instrumental to the way we want to operate in Sandwell – with a greater focus on locality working. This role is a positive result of the restructure and will lead the way in delivering local services. And as this is a brand new role, you will have the opportunity to develop it as you see best and make your mark on Sandwell and people’s lives.
As the lead officer with responsibility for two towns, you will work closely with community groups and agencies to identify issues and develop strategies to resolve them. These groups cover a diverse range of public interests, from housing and environmental health to trading standards and antisocial behaviour.
This position is highly strategic but you will be required to get actively involved on a local level in order to fully appreciate and understand the needs of the community. Building active working partnerships and promoting effective communication will be central to this.
We would like to meet a strong, highly experienced senior manager with a background and specialist knowledge in a relevant field, such as housing or community safety. A professional portfolio of managing and delivering complex change and improvement programmes will be essential.
Your capacity for partnership working needs to be matched by a high level of business acumen and commercial awareness. We will also be looking for highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to make well-balanced judgments, and tenacity for creative and innovative thinking.
