Safe, Secure and Clean
  • To aid the implementation of the EMS within the facility
  • Conduct investigations into incidents with potential environmental consequences
  • Input into facility change control process to ensure environmental issues are addressed
  • Share best practice and lessons learnt through company level environmental focus groups
  • Raising environmental and waste awareness amongst facility staff through tool box talks, presentations and delivery of training
  • Coordinate all waste activities in the asset and ensure regulatory requirements are met
  • Undertake periodic reviews to ensure wastes produced are managed in line with the principles of the waste hierarchy
  • Help ensure that the Facility operates within agreed COMAH limits through undertaking inspections of storage areas and checking accuracy of database
  • Help ensure the Facility is compliant with the requirements of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993
  • Support the facility CfCO/ATO process for a Category 5 facility

Performance delivery
  • Help ensure that robust arrangements are in place to monitor environmental and, in particular, waste management performance
  • Help ensure that robust arrangements are in place to identify and mitigate environmental risk
  • Participate in engagements with key stakeholders, particularly the EA, to ensure effective relationships are in place to enable programme delivery
  • Assist in implementing an EMS that is fully compliant with legislative and company requirements and those arrangements are in place to ensure implementation within programme and functions within area of control

Financially Successful
  • To ensure environmental and waste improvements that are identified represent cost effective solutions
  • Ensure the understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to the Company's Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards

  • Degree level education or equivalent in relevant area and/or experience in a similar role
  • Membership or working towards membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. IEMA, CIWEM, CIWM

  • Good knowledge of environmental and waste legislation and how it applies to AWE
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and environmental/waste management techniques

  • Relevant environmental or waste experience
  • Environmental Management System or waste process implementation
  • Worked on a nuclear licensed site or other high hazard industry
  • Worked in a highly regulated environment

  • Able to produce waste and environmental documentation containing technical information to a high standard
  • Able to identify problems and then formulate pragmatic solutions
  • Ability to consider internal influences from the local area and the impact of their actions on areas outside their immediate team/area
  • Ability to represent the Asset and the company where required
  • Influences other organisations, e.g. 3rd party service providers, to provide timely appropriate services
  • Good IT skills

  • Ability to confidently communicate with personnel from all levels within the company
  • Self motivating
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and on own initiative
  • Positive attitude and approach
  • Pragmatic approach in aiding delivery of HD programme
  • Able to demonstrate that they are in control of and accountable for their project/task with regard to cost, quality, planning and resources
