As the Product Safety Engineering Manager your main responsibilities will involve:
Reviewing the application of Product Safety requirements across the Project and developing any necessary improvements to ensure compliance to Company mandates and to support the Project Chief Engineer's responsibilities with respect to Product Safety.
Management of all associated product safety activities and ensuring that urgent safety issues are communicated to the appropriate authorities.
Developing and maintaining appropriate interactive lines of communication within the project, with customer representatives, with relevant regulatory authorities and with Naval Ships.
Ensure that design changes are reviewed for Product Safety and Environmental impact and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
Review SHE incidents to ensure product safety implications arising from accident/incident reporting are adequately addressed.
Ensure that safety data is maintained in an auditable and acceptable form.
Provide expert advice on safety and environmental management to other members of the project, including customer representatives.
Manage the project safety audit activities to assure the effective operation of the product safety management arrangements.
As the Product Safety Engineering Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
A strong background in Maritime Engineering activities and an understanding of Warship operational profiles.
Extensive understanding of engineering quality standards and legal and regulatory obligations, particularly those involving safety.
Previous experience in an engineering management position in maritime project.
Ability to manage a team interfacing with a wide range of specialists, providers and customers.
Management of customer expectations through acceptance of design safety solutions.
Knowledge of current Safety Management processes.
Understanding of the Company's Product Safety Management Framework is desirable.
Understanding of UK Naval Authority practice and processes including Key Hazard Certification is desirable.
Degree qualified, or equivalent, in relevant engineering discipline with significant engineering experience.
MOD Ship Safety Management Office Certificated is desirable.
Preferably is a member of a relevant Professional Body and Chartered Engineer.
