An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Cost Engineer within BAE Systems Submarine Solutions in Barrow-in-Furness. The successful candidate will take a leading role in the compilation of estimates and other detailed costing information as part of the Cost Engineering function in estimating, pricing and tendering activities.
As a Senior Cost Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:
Produce detailed profiled, activity and resource-based, bottom-up labour and material estimates with supporting assumptions, exclusions and dependencies.
Lead in the application of the QMAC within Cost Engineering.
Provide Cost Engineering guidance, at an appropriate level, to other departments and functions.
Analyse out-turn records to enable reconciliation with the contract price.
Lead on providing man-hour budgets and advice to production departments for project monitoring purposes.
Develop Bills of Materials, Quantities and Norms.
Develop and maintain customer relationships both internal and external, and support negotiations with all customers (e.g. PFG).
Monitor labour and material spends against contract using uniform / appropriate work breakdown structure.
To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to adhere to all quality and HS&E rules and control measures.
Perform surveys of the Submarine if any element of the estimate requires it.
As a Senior Cost Engineer, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Educated to HNC Level or equivalent in a technical/operational skill set or appropriate relevant experience.
Experience of ERP systems including Earned Value Management principles.
Team working with internal functions and external customers.
Knowledge of the Submarine processes interfacing with the Cost Engineering function would be beneficial but not essential.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings would be beneficial but not essential.
Project management would be beneficial but not essential.
Experience in a manufacturing operational environment would be beneficial.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft packages.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
