Salary £13353 to £15151 per annum (pro rata), depending on skills and experience. Applications are invited for the above post based in the Djanogly Learning Resource Centre and Business Library on Jubilee Campus. The successful candidate will provide a variety of library services. This role involves working in different areas of the library, carrying out a range of tasks, some of them physically demanding.
They include working at a library counter, at the reception or exit desk, standing at the self service machines helping users understand how they work, and sorting, shelving and tidying books. Candidates must have a good standard of education evidenced by GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English at grade C or above, plus some relevant work experience in a face to face customer service role. Essential personal qualities required include a proven ability to work both in a team and alone, dealing effectively and efficiently with customers. Candidates must be flexible in their approach and able to work well under pressure in a busy environment.
Relevant library experience will be an advantage. To be competitive in your application, you will need to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and experience against our selection criteria. Hours of work are 23.37 hours per week: Business Library, Monday 4.45 pm-10.00 pm, Djanogly Learning Resource Centre, Thursday 3.00 pm-10.00 pm (with 30 minutes unpaid break at 4.30pm), Friday 4.45 pm–10.00 pm, alternate Saturday afternoons 12.15 pm–5.00 pm, every Sunday morning 9.15 pm–1.15 pm. The post is term time only 30.6 weeks worked (36 weeks including annual leave and bank holiday allowance).
The post holder will also be required to work on one of the two May bank holiday Mondays per annum. This will be agreed in advance, by mutual consent wherever possible, dependent on operational requirements. It may be in a different library from the normal place of work, and may be at a different time from the normal hours of work but will not exceed the longest shift in the normal work pattern. The post holder may be asked to work in other libraries.
