An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic individuals to join the Department of Cellular Pathology as a Biomedical Scientists in Cytology.
If you are an HPC registered Biomedical Scientist and hold the NHSCSP Certificate in cytology or equivalent we would like to hear from you. Ideally you will have more than 2 years screening experience.
You will play a full role in the routine screening and rapid review of cervical smears as well as processing non-gynaecological samples. You will also have the opportunity to pre-screen diagnostic samples.
A joint cervical cytology screening service (based in the Rockefeller Building) is run in partnership with the University College London Hospital (UCLH) department. Cervical samples from both Trusts are registered and reported at UCLH.
We use the Thinprep LBC system but training will be provided if conversion to Thinprep is required.
The department is fully CPA accredited and is part of a busy teaching hospital and all staff are encouraged to take part in courses and CPD activities. Opportunities may also be given for further studies leading to higher qualifications.
The cytology section has a workload of 32,000 cervical smears and 4,000 diagnostic requests per annum
