What is the purpose of the role?
This is an essential role which ensures the integrity and safety of the water network for all of our customers. You will take responsibility for checking high-risk customers and ensuring that the properties fall into the legal compliance levels within a specified agreed time scale.
What makes this role unique?
This role will ensure you are directly linked with the customer on a daily basis. You will be required to have an excellent rapport in order to deliver difficult messages to the customer, working to ensure that the customer and premises are legally compliant.
You will need to guide the customers through the specific legal requirements and follow up on your initial inspection. No two days and no two properties are ever the same in this role.
What will this role involve?
What are we looking for?
- You will be allocated appointments to attend onsite at external customers commercial properties, such as restaurants and hairdressers. These are graded on the risks to the Thames Water customer from low to high.
- During the appointment you will be required to inspect the pipe work and fittings, checking all pipes in the building match the water regulations standards. As there are very specific criteria that have to be met within the scope of the inspection, the outcome will be either a pass or a fail.
- Customers can learn that there is a need to spend money on improvements, and so on occasion can be quite confrontational. You will need to be able to diffuse this situation whilst remaining the positive and professional face of Thames Water during any possible confrontation.
- You will be required to guide your customer through the reason why the issues are occurring and where their money will be required to be spent. You may wish to advise them on where to get parts, therefore excellent communication is required at all times.
Ideally you will have knowledge of the Water Supply Water (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. You must be educated to A level, BTEC, City and Guilds or NVQ level in plumbing or equivalent, due to the requirements of the role.
You will need to demonstrate great attention to detail, as the legal compliance of a site depends on this. You will also have excellent customer service skills and proven experience in delivering difficult messages to a customer. You are required to manage your own time, and it would be your responsibility to follow up on revisits to your customer sites.
