very working day we collect, process and deliver around 71 million items to over 28 million addresses.
The mails market is changing: people often now use email instead of letters and the number of letters we deliver is reducing each year. However, the growth of the online shopping industry means we now deliver more parcels every week.
We deliver to our customers 6 days a week, but now instead of seeing the postwoman and postman on a bike or carrying heavy bags, you will see them out in shared vans, working as a team to deliver the various parcels and letters to our customers.

As a delivery postwoman or postman you will be the public face of Royal Mail and an established part of the community. Its the person you see delivering your post every day.
Due to modernisation our postwomen and postmen work more sociable hours and your day will start in the local delivery office, where you will collect your mail for your round. You may finalise sorting the mail into your delivery route or it may have already been sorted for you.
After that, you will start your delivery round, usually with a colleague in a shared van which you will be required to drive, therefore you will need a full driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points. You will have a hand held computer device to capture customer signatures for deliveries. Your round will take approx. 4 hours to complete and thanks to our new delivery methods you will not be carrying heavy bags, however it will keep you fit.
Our commitment to our customers is that we will deliver in all weathers and your role in making that happen is critical.
Pay and Benefits
You will be paid weekly, increments at 6 months and 12 months are subject to satisfactory performance.
Age 17 £7.08 + 6 months +12 months
Age 18 £9.10 £9.61 £10.12
We also offer a weekly Delivery Functional Supplement of £22.94 (pro-rata) plus overtime and shift allowance if applicable
Hours of work:
30 hours per week
(Between 8:00am - 2:30pm Monday to Saturday with 1 day off) Start time will vary between 8:00am and 8:30am, finish time will vary between 2:00pm and 2:30pm.
