Founded in 1997, Whistle Stop Plastics Ltd specialise in the injection moulding of plastic components for a large scope of industries, ranging from civil aeronautics, through high-end audio components, to water treatment filters. Their core business lies in the high quality manufacturing of small components, including the specialised over-moulding process, whereby components are created using one type of plastic, and completed or over-layered with another specific material.
Job Description : The job holder will liaise with the Production Manager and offer technical expertise of injection moulding and manufacturing to ensure the day to day running of the shop floor production. This is a technical plastic injection moulding role involving setting a wide range of polymers and fillers as well as recommending polymer selections for products. You will ensure orders are achieved and supervise the production team by addressing training needs and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
Job Responsibilities: Technical liaison with material suppliers/designers; process optimisation of injection moulding machines and tooling; troubleshooting a wide range of polymers and complex tooling. Leading and improving setting team for 20+ tool changes daily; reduce tool change-over times; ensure the smooth running of the shop floor and provide a first point of contact. Prioritise production needs including machine or tooling issues; plan and communicate production requirements with Setters. Support Team Leaders with production requirements and resource management; support logistics team leader with customer requirements and monitor stock levels of mould shop consumables. Set up new components to an approved QA level; arrange and document mould machine maintenance and servicing (in-house) and arrange/book external engineers/contractors as required. Create and monitor internal forms/spreadsheets; monitor production to achieve the set/desired quality levels in line with Health and Safety recommendations. Create and issue work instructions for all machinery and tooling insert changes and associated employee training; arrange and plan projects to meet tasks and objectives issued; train all new staff to company standard and appraise and monitor employee performance. To carry out pre-production trialling when required; be the main point of contact when the Production Manager is off site and communicate tooling improvements through to the tool room. To drive both 5S and productivity improvements on the shop floor.
Skills Range: Technical ability in fault finding, problem solving and improving injection moulding processes. Ability to lead activities for staff development by using excellent communication skills.
Job qualifications: The job holder will have a manufacturing or engineering HNC or equivalent qualification. A qualification in Supervisory Management NVQ Level 3 or equivalent would also be required.
Job experience: With a confident, assertive and professional manner the job holder will have supervisory or management experience within an injection moulding or engineering background. Having a technical ability in fault finding the Production Setter/Supervisor will have experience of supervising teams within a similar background and know how to get the best out of their team.
