Existing Sussex Police employees must inform their immediate Line Manager before applying for this post. Sussex Police Special Constables, Volunteers and Agency Staff (excluding self employed workers) covered under the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) are eligible to apply for internally advertised posts.
An opportunity has arisen for a part time 12 month role within the Force Crime Management Unit which sits in the Crime Support branch of Specialist Crime Command within Sussex Police. The unit is responsible for the administration and review of the Force’s crime files and other crime related processes. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring that the department provides a high quality “back office” administration support, for both active and closed crime files, processing and inputting crime related information into the Force’s crime recording system, as well as offering assistants to members of Sussex Police with crime administration questions. You will also be responsible for admin support in other crime related areas such as criminal injuries compensation requests, forensic results and the retention of crime information under the Management of Police information policy. Full training will be given in all aspects of crime management and the role is considered a good entry point for those considering a police staff career within crime management.
Your day-today duties will include:
-Updating the NICHE crime record management system with such information as details of offenders and stolen property.
-Filing, storage and retrieval of crime related documentation.
-The processing of out of court crime disposals such as cannabis warnings and Police Information Notices.
-Dealing with departmental post.
-The administration and maintenance of crime related processes such as forensic results, Criminal Injuries Compensation requests, including interrogation of the relevant systems to ensure all information is up to date.
-Ensuring compliance with Management of Police Information, Crime Recording and File Destruction policies.
-Assisting and responding to enquires from members of Sussex Police and partner agencies.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate basic office administration skills and the ability to input data in an accurate manner. You will have good communication skills and be able to work well in a team and be able to prioritise your own workload. A good level of IT skills including experience in the use of Microsoft products is desirable. The role is for a 12 month period to cover a member of staff on secondment to another department. The role requires 18 hours per week on a flexi time basis during Monday to Friday the hours can be negotiated between the successful candidate and the manager.
