PLEASE NOTE THAT WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CLOSE VACANCIES PRIOR TO THE ADVERTISED CLOSING DATE WHEN WE ARE IN RECEIPT OF SUFFICIENT APPLICATIONSNorthampton General Hospital, Department of Medicine and Emergency Care, Locum Consultant PhysicianAcute Medicine (1 post)Applications are invited for a six month locum Acute Physician Consultant based on the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) at Northampton General Hospital.The well established EAU is adjacent to A&E, Radiology and the Kidney Centre and close to HDU, ITU, the Heart Centre and medical wards. There is input from all medical specialties. NGH receives approximately 12,000 acute medical admissions each year and EAU has 32 beds including a 6 bed assessment area supported by senior assessment nurses and is being redesigned to ensure a streamlined emergency pathway across A&E and EAU.The department of medicine has 37 consultants covering the full range of medical specialties including hyperacute stroke care. There are extensive undergraduate and postgraduate training opportunities with a newly opened training simulation suiteThe posts provide an exciting opportunity to lead the junior medical team (2 ST3+ and 6 junior trainees) Monday to Friday supported by other physicians.Northampton General Hospital has patient safety as a high priority and is a pilot site for the National Patient Safety Initiative with the department playing a key role in this.
