Designer - Plastic Moulded Products

Design Engineer required with extensive experience of designing and developing plastic injection moulded products. The Gloucester based company has ambitious growth plans and requires an ambitious, self-motivated individual with innovative ideas and aesthetic appreciation. A background in mechanical engineering and relevant qualifications are essential.

Specific tasks will include:
  • Providing a design and development resource for the manufacturing sales team working both on breakthrough new products and reworking existing products to give them a new twist
  • Generating new product ideas in conjunction with the sales & marketing team or through your own innovation
  • Managing new product projects effectively using planning, drive and initiative in order to deliver excellent quality products on time, and so create a competitive edge
  • Building in quality through awareness of potential failure modes and elimination or mitigation of risks
  • Developing a network of suppliers in order to source new materials, tooling or services to deliver on time at the right quality and cost
  • Managing external design and development resources as appropriate, where additional skills or resources are required
Qualifications: you will be educated to HND or Degree Level in Mechanical Engineering or similar

Experience:
  • Proven track record of inventive design
  • Solid experience of plastic injection moulded products
  • Six Sigma or similar design quality skills to build in customer satisfaction
  • Excellent CAD skills, 3D preferred
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel &
Powerpoint

Other requirements:
  • You must be able to set challenging goals and then plan effectively to achieve them
  • You will be capable of problem solving and decision making
  • A flexible approach is essential as the ability to work effectively on your own as well as part of team
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness and numeracy is vital
  • You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy building relationships with suppliers and colleagues
Salary: this is circa £25000 - £28000 depending upon experience

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am start.
