Rolls-Royce has been part of the UK's nuclear industry from the start - our continuous involvement spans over half a century in the design and supply of equipment for both civil and military reactors. The Group will play a key role in the UK's nuclear reactor new build programme. We have the largest nuclear skills base in the UK, with an existing nuclear certified supply chain of 260 companies.
We are the pioneer of one of the most important technological advances in naval propulsion - the use of nuclear propulsion for the Royal Navy's submarine flotilla. As the UK Technical Authority for the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant, we manage all aspects of the plant design, safety, manufacture, performance and through-life support.
The Plant Engineering Design team is currently engaged in the planning of a regenerated site to enable long-term core manufacture capability in support of the Royal Navy's Submarine fleet.
Your primary role will be to provide the Rolls-Royce 'Technical Lead' for ancillary mechanical equipment design work packages sub-contracted out to other organisations.
The role includes:-
Overseeing outsourced design work
Attending design reviews
Checking and commenting on designs
Design and detailing of equipment where necessary using AutoCAD 2008
Assisting with the production of detailed requirements, and accepting these on behalf of Rolls-Royce
Acceptance of concept and final designs for Rolls-Royce
Checking calculations
Checking for CE compliance when appropriate
Producing Factory and Site Acceptance Test documentation
Liaising with manufacturers during and following the manufacturing phase, and troubleshooting as necessary.
Executing Acceptance Tests
Liaising with sub contractors to resolve design problems
Some flexibility is required in this role because the team have commitments that contribute to meeting the Nuclear Site Licence conditions. This may involve updating infrastructure drawings and producing internally generated designs when the need arises.
The site operates within the restrictions of a Nuclear Site Licence, therefore any work undertaken must take account of the ALARP principle with respect to criticality, radiation shielding, airborne and surface contamination and seismicity as well as conventional and environmental safety.
Qualifications and experience
You will hold a recognised engineering qualification and be able to demonstrate previous design experience in a Plant Engineering environment, or you will have experience in a broad range of mechanical engineering disciplines.
You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of current standards and legislation such as: British Standards, Building Regulations, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, Machinery Directives and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations.
Previous experience in the nuclear industry and appropriate security clearance are both
desirable, although not essential.
It is a fundamental term of your employment that you have permission under UK Immigration Law to undertake employment and where applicable, that you have and continue to hold valid and UK immigration clearance.
It will be advantageous for applicants to hold current MoD security clearance.
In return, we offer excellent development prospects, coupled with the salary and benefits you would expect of an internationally renowned and successful organisation.
We are an equal opportunities employer.
We are unable to employ anyone who does not have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
In the absence of any candidate from outside the EEA possessing immigration status which allows them to live and work in the UK, Rolls-Royce will consider sponsorship under Tier 2 of the Points Based System. Sponsorship is subject to all the appropriate criteria (as specified by the UK Border Agency) being satisfied.
Should Rolls-Royce choose to sponsor a candidate who is outside of the UK then please note that it will be necessary for Rolls-Royce to make an application for a certificate of sponsorship from the UK Border Agency. Rolls-Royce cannot offer any guarantee that such a request will be successful.
In the recruitment process all candidates are required to provide the necessary right to work information and documentation.
