About The Job

As Buyer on our Lingerie Department you will source, develop and buy strategically for the department delivering a commercial range that maximises sales and profit opportunities. Agree and deliver the departmental sourcing plan, optimising the best route for product in line with the business area strategy (in conjunction with Design Team, Merchandiser and technology) as well as negotiate with the departmental supplier base to deliver better values, cost prices and lead time .

Job Summary
  • Managing the Critical Path from concept through to buying
  • Manage and sign off product spec pack to meet the Critical Path
  • Work with design to develop product direct to factories
  • Providing focused, clear development direction to supplier base
  • Negotiating the best cost price to achieve departmental margin targets
  • Understanding clothing product trends and interpreting them into Lingerie where relevant
  • Developing the right product at the right time, in line with the departmental design brief to meet customer requirements
  • Applying in-depth knowledge of the current competitive market place
  • Applying New Look brand strategy
  • Exploiting OTB through product development
  • Lead the team to give direction to instore layout and marketing.
  • Reviewing current sales each week with team and react appropriately to maximise every sales opportunity
  • To monitor, maintain and action competitor analysis
  • To be responsible for the motivation and development of direct reports in your department (Junior Buyer and Admin)
  • Agree packaging and presentation of product in line with critical path
  • Maximising current sourcing channels (e.g. KPI) and identifying new sourcing opportunities.
  • Initiating trial product opportunities to maximise future sales and reduce risk
  • Determine pricing strategy and price point policy for ranges in conjunction with Merchandiser
  • Sharing of information where relevant on product, suppliers, best/worse sellers etc. within business area and across business area
  • Communicate effectively with external teams Working with QA to develop block and fit that reflects design input and customer trends
Experience & Skills
  • Speed to market – reacting to new trends as quick as possible
  • Knowledge of all the elements that make up the cost of a product
  • Understanding of supply chain issues / cost – (e.g. product lead times/ flexibility/ supplier capability)
  • Skilled negotiation techniques
  • Ability to develop and build a comprehensive product range
  • Developing and implementing departmental and Business strategy
  • Understanding of strategic needs of division
  • Understanding of packaging and presentation of a product
  • Understanding of New Look brand and sub-brand strategy
  • An in-depth knowledge of the current competitive market place
  • Understanding launch plans, phasing and sale dates
  • Ability to identify relevant product trends in global retail market place (directional shopping)
  • Ability to put together a comprehensive and clear design brief (in conjunction with designer and QA)
