Business Area Description:
The Equity Finance group provides liquidity of securities to the global equities group to allow short proprietary trading, hedging for derivative trading and M&A risk arbitrage trading. Equity Borrow / Loan is the vehicle used to provide this liquidity. This is a global business operating from several sites (London, New York , Sydney, Tokyo , Brazil and Hong Kong).

The Equity Finance group also provides services to Prime Broking clients.

Servicing both the internal groups and prime broking clients is accomplished by a mix of long-standing heritage systems from the h-JPM and h-Bear Stearns groups.

The group has a multi-year initiative to create a global strategic platform to replace the existing systems.

Job Description:
The role is for an experienced Java developer to join the Stock Borrow / Loan (SBL) team to work on the development and enhancement of the strategic applications for the Borrow / Loan business.

The strategic application stack architecture spans Oracle, Java spring middle tier accessing the DB via Hibernate and a Java Swing application served via Webstart. The application is served using JBOSS 5.1

The role is in the "Post Trade" organization which covers settlements, finance and feeds.

The successful applicant will be expected to strongly influence and provide technical leadership in the continued adoption of newer technologies and working practices, particularly in the Java area.

The successful applicant will be expected to share some Build Management duties within the team.

The successful applicant will require to work with the business users directly, business Product Development Team and the IT teams to define solutions and see them through to completion.

Key Attributes:

• Very Strong Java (Java 6)
• Very Strong Object Orientated Design
• Spring or other dependency injection frameworks
• Remoting such as RMI, Web Services
• Multithreading
• Development of Java Swing Applications
• Messaging Middleware products such as JMS, MQ , EMS.
• Java testing using JUnit or similar toolkits
• RDBMS (ideally ORACLE )
• Experience of Hibernate is highly desirable
• Subversion
• Linux
• Continuous build and test experience is desirable.
• A background in investment banking or financial sector is highly desirable.

Additional Info:
SBL is a global application suite, and there are occasions where the successful candidate will be required to work at unusual times (late nights or early mornings).

The SBL team provides 3rd level support, each team member provides support 1 week in 10 (on a rota basis). The support person is expected to provide 24 / 7 cover during that period.
