Minimum Requirements:
Candidates should be degree qualified, ideally with a Masters in Environmental Science, Geography/Geoscience, Chemistry or related discipline. Some experience in environmental consultancy is desirable, and candidates must have the willingness to learn new skills and techniques. Experience in the application of GIS tools would be a distinct advantage.
In addition candidates should be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Thorough knowledge of key Scottish, UK and EU environmental regulation and legislation;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write technical reports to a high grammatical and technical standard;
- Proficiency in AutoCAD;
- Familiarity with subcontractor management, and
- An understanding of health and safety requirements on-site.
Candidates should also have a full driving licence
Job Description:
The URS environment business in Scotland has an opportunity for an environmental consultant to join the team in the Edinburgh office. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an international consultancy currently undergoing an exciting expansion plan, with projects in a number of market sectors, including renewable energy, rail and road infrastructure, oil & gas and regeneration & property development.
The Environment team in Edinburgh is part of a multi-disciplinary department, based in Edinburgh and Glasgow and comprising Transactions, Compliance, EIA and Planning, Sustainability, Ecology and Landscape services. Delivering to a broad range of clients across the power, industrial, engineering and development markets in the private and public sectors the team works closely with a wider UK Environment and Planning team and with multi-disciplinary colleagues from all engineering functions.
The successful candidate will work with a growing team to:
- Support delivery of environmental planning and due diligence projects to a range of clients,
- Undertake desk studies and environmental assessments,
- Prepare technical reports, including the development of spatial graphic presentation using GIS and AutoCAD applications,
- Work with colleagues in other UK offices to develop and ensure sharing of knowledge and best practice, and
- Support the multi-disciplinary Environment Department on technical and project management issues.
This role is particularly suited to an individual with a desire to learn new skills and develop their consultancy experience across diverse technical areas. The successful candidate will have gained some post graduate experience in an environmental consultancy and is looking for a role with responsibility and support in taking the next step in your career. There will be an opportunity to develop project management experience for those looking to take the next step towards taking on a project management role.
